These two pictures show my first hand quilting stitches I did in 1990 and what I do today. I just want to encourage all of you hand quilters who struggle with themselves at their first attempts! You see how practicing will change the result.

Thank you for your encouragement. I love hand quilting too. But, I need to do it more frequently. Only if work, and housework didn't get in the way.

You do such beautiful work.

earthwalker 01-28-2011 12:31 AM

Thanks, really appreciate this post...as I mentioned in the other post about handquilting, it is often difficult to find an example of other people's handwork. Yours is exquisite....

My biggest problem when starting out was getting the tension right, but I think I'm getting better...maybe another 20 years and I might be ok!

Thanks Carolaug for the links.

Magdalena 01-28-2011 12:35 AM

Thanks Carolaug. Because of you, I am still up and should be sleeping. Yes, well worth the watching :)

Wow! Thank you SO much! Not only is your work stunning but it was so sweet of you to show that we all start out as "beginners" learning to do it for the first time. Wow!

Thank you for posting this! I've been doing searches trying to find up-close pictures of hand quilting, and there just aren't that many.

Your current work is so amazing!

Panda 01-28-2011 12:38 PM

Thank you for the encouragement! I know that I'm not the only one here that feels bumbly and clumsy sometimes. My stitches aren't the tiniest, but I will get there. :)

pumpkinpatchquilter 01-28-2011 01:01 PM

Your stitching is beautiful! Mine look much like yours in the first photo! Lol* ;) Well, not as nice actually!

Jennifer22206 01-28-2011 01:10 PM

The first is really nice, and more like what I do now. :) And your second - wow.. your quilting takes my breath away!

I call that completely encouraging. I do a little hand quilting and feel like a perenial beginner, but maybe if I keep at it in a more concistant way mine will one day look half as good as yours. Thank you so much for sharing.

Born To ..... thanks for sharing your beautiful handwork! I remember the first time I hand quilted, you feel so clumsy and heavy handed. Time goes by and it becomes an almost soothing, easy, rocking flow. Thanks for reminding us of the beauty of hand quilting!

Lindsey 02-10-2011 08:01 AM

Oh my you really are very good at hand quilting I must say.

Thanks a lot... :) Hand quilting is all I do...I do not piece or do appliqué. So you see it is just practice, practice, practice!

Stitchnripper 02-10-2011 01:07 PM
