lisalisa 05-28-2011 04:12 PM

wow my DH asked me if anyone had ever done this on a whole quilt and I said they could but I don't think they would be able to lift it afterwards. It must be heavy? It's beautiful. Very ambitious!

Beautiful!!

When the tutorials and pillow samples started showing up, I was curious about making a larger piece, and how the heavier, multi-layered blocks would work in a quilt.

How much thicker/heavier are those blocks than the sashings? Are you going to (or do you need to) do something to compensate for the difference? How would you quilt those stars? Are they too big to leave unquilted?

Just curious. I think it's going to be a stunning quilt when you're finished.

I have made a couple of practice dahlias and they are a lot of fun, and work. I was thinking that they could be made as a QAYG block with very little batting or with just a backing.

I look forward to hearing how well it all goes together.

I wonder if it's almost like a reverse trapunto technique. ;-)

The QAYG option is also an interesting alternative.

This is a stunning WIP! Blue and white is one of my favorite color schemes.

debcavan 05-29-2011 08:39 AM

Your fabrics are just beautiful. I have never seen a folded dahlia in a quilt before only pillows and bags. it is beautiful

buckeyed 05-29-2011 08:40 AM

The more I see the folded Dahlia the more I need to make one. I did one many years ago but will use a tut and make another. Love the blue and white. Thanks for the nudge to get one done...

Lori Peercy 05-29-2011 08:45 AM

Did you use the 6 1/2" blocks for the dahlia? I had seen some discussions about using smaller since you don't see the part that is underneath.

MDMPanther 05-29-2011 08:57 AM

That's beautiful in pieces, it's gonna be gorgeous when it's all done!!!

rexie 05-29-2011 01:05 PM

O.K. now. I have seen several of these folded dahlia blocks and they are all beautiful....but I have to know the truth....Are they as hard to make as they look? So far I have mastered the Bow Tucks, the Pillowcase and the Log Cabin.

neeng 05-29-2011 02:04 PM

If you can make bow tuck you can do this. It is very very easy.
