My Niece came to Ky on her spring break. I had bought her a sewing machine last year but it seems no one in her family knows how to sew ..so I had her for a whole week..taught her how to use her sewing machine..went fabric shopping...that was fun..and she made her first rag quilt. I had so much fun with her..( I had boys)....hope she remembers all I taught her and will continue to sew!

she loved making her first quilt!

Catherine, what a great memory for you both. She has sewer's eyes to me, and she did great with the lap quilt, bet she does more.
She's going to go home, and wow, the family. Who knows? Maybe they will become quilters now :D. So glad you guys got pictures. Thanks for sharing this. I love stories with kids. :D

It is fun to get a young person interested. So many don't even want to try. Your store looks familiar to me! :?: What part of Ky. are you from?

You are a best aunt ever.....
She will always remember you with love...
What a great gift...

You can tell by her smile how much fun she had. How great of you to take her under your wing and teach her. Every time she sews she will think of you.

sewnsewer2 04-05-2009 06:01 PM

That is wonderful!! I'm sure Tori will think of you everytime she uses her quilt and remember her Aunt taught her how to make it.

Very pretty BTW.

It looks like your neice is one happy lady, and what a privelege to be able to teach her.

She might become a holiday "regular".

CindyBee 04-06-2009 03:55 AM

What great fun! I'm sure she'll treasure her quilt and never forget the time you spent together.

key4unc 04-06-2009 04:39 AM

What fun is that! She looks like she was having a good time. Did she finish the rag quilt? The only thing she might not like about that process is having to clip all those edgfes.

Chele 04-06-2009 04:40 AM

How cute! It looks like she had a wonderful time. Her quilt is beautiful! Quick learner!

mkanderson , I live in Lawrenceburg, Ky. This Joanns is in Frankfort. A 10 minute drive from my house. Thanks for all the comments. Lots of new gals here...I have been so busy at work I haven't been on the board for awhile...good to be back!
I sure hope she remembers how to thread the needle and that bobbin...we had some pretty interesting tries at it at first..I never knew a bobbin could go in that way and get stuck...haa but she learned quickly. It was so much fun! She did finish the quilt..and yes I did have to take my turn clipping those seams. ( and by the way, girls are messy aren't they? remember I had boys..ha
