My projects

It took me a year and a half to complete a quilt for my son Andrew, who lives in the Netherlands, because I was traveling so much for work last year. But I completed it while he was home for a visit in June. It is the pattern Thinking Outside the Box - I had seen it hanging in a quilt shop in Fountain, CO and fell in love with the pattern and thought it would be just the thing to brighten my son's apartment in Amsterdam. I did the long arm quilting at a shop that rents LA time. Not quite as good as I would have liked, but I did it myself. I failed to take a photo of the back which was pieced from all the left over fabrics, which turned out quite nicely as well.

The D9P is not quite finished yet - still have to bind it and make a label for it. This one was made this summer and was a collaboration with a co-worker and is for my administrative assistant who is getting married today. She will receive it when she returns to work after her honeymoon. The colors in her bedroom are graphite and aqua. The blue in the quilt is really an exact match of the aqua and my co-worker and I thought the black and white would go well with the graphite color (we had purchased pillow cases from her bridal registry in order to match fabric). My co-worker pieced the back with left over blocks and left over black fabrics. A local LA quilter was able to quilt it in a week for us. It has a paisley border so we thought a paisley quilt pattern would work well. We think it turned out very nicely.

I am very proud of both projects.

I failed to mention that my son's quilt is 64" x 64" to use as a throw or wall hanging. The D9P is a queen size quilt - in the photo it is spread out on my dining room table.

Both look great and I love the quilting.

dunster 09-15-2012 10:50 AM

Your quilts are beautiful. Are you going to try longarming again? Is that really a D9P? I guess it's the sashing that gives it such a wonderful design. I love the way it's laid out.

LoisM 09-15-2012 10:55 AM

Oh, my! They're simply wonderful!! Great job!

kay carlson 09-15-2012 10:58 AM

Both quilts are beautiful! The selection of colors for the second quilt is so pleasing to the eye. I am sure the bride and groom will treasure this D9 patch. I think it is exceptionally nice that you not only pieced the top for your son, but also did the quilting on the LA. Truly, this is an heirloom quilt. Thanks for sharing. You inspire us with your lovely work.

Beautiful quilts. Great 3-D effect. Love the colors in the teal and graphite quilt.

Grandma Cindy 09-17-2012 07:03 AM

I so agree , the sashing kicks up the D9P several notches. Is there any way you could take a full picture of it and send it to me in an IM. I do not know how to follow along since they changed the format. Either way both quilts are wonderful and I know you are very proud of them both...

Both are lovely. Love D9P, but that first one with its dimensional look--well it's no wonder you fell in love with the pattern. Stunning. You have been busy with very satisfying results.
