A while ago my yongest DD (age 6) finished her first "quilt": http://www.quiltingboard.com/t-91825-1.htm and now I'm training my oldest on the blind stitch for binding. They have a blanket that has definitely seen better days and is ready for the scrap pile. But, I noticed the binding was coming loose on it so I thought that I would make this a learning experiment and let my oldest practice her stitch on a blanket that's going to be 86'd anyway.

Awww.....she's so cute!! Love her smile in the first pic, but the second picture is so cute because she is concentrating so hard on getting her stitches just right! :wink: You are also teaching her a valuable lesson is mending something that still has a little bit of life left in it. So often the first reaction is to just throw sometihng away and not try to fix it. 8-)

Awwweee, that's so sweet. I wish my kids would have taken an interest in quilting. I did actually get my son to finish almost one block of a rail fence quilt not that long ago but that was only because he was grounded and had nothing to do.

Wonderful lessons for your girls & maybe they will take good care of all their quilts, after this.

Thanks! They both want to be missionaries and hand sewing is definitely a good skill to have when you're in the middle of nowhere. She asked me to show her how to do the stitches and about halfway through she wanted to quit. It was pretty hard but I explained to her that if I let her just quit now, then she'd quit too easily in the future. She finished the binding and was so proud of herself and glad she persevered. A great life lesson in binding!
