I'd been wanting to do something with all my scraps. I discovered the crumbs method, and this is what I ended up with...

I'm still trying to decide whether to leave it at this size (maybe add a 1-2in border) or keep going and make it bigger?

Shemjo 06-25-2009 12:49 PM

The piece looks good as it is! How big is it? If it is big enough for you,it is done.

Nice job.

sorry, just fixed it.. i hope

Love the colors.

Call me silly, but I haven't come across enough explanation on how to do a crumb. I know, I should dig deeper, but I haven't. Any clues you could pass along?

I used this tutorial... http://quiltville.com/crumbs.shtml Had to practice a little at first, but I eventually got the hang of it.

Thanks "boom"! Definitely will be something I want to attempt, one of these days.

I love your quilt!!! Those crumb blocks really set off your center block! Good Job :D :D :D

earthwalker 06-25-2009 06:21 PM

Your quilt is lovely. Really gorgeous colours...very unique design. Thanks for providing the link. I save the smallest bits and pieces...I can't bear to throw them away..so I guess "crumbing" will be the perfect solution.

Yeah, my whole goal with this was to try and use up my scraps. I used almost all of the scraps I had in the colors that I used.

sewjoyce 06-26-2009 04:59 AM

That is sew cute!!! Good way to use your scraps!

Boom - great tuturial...but also a good site. I checked out some of the patterns and saved it to my favorites I know there are a few patterns in my near future. Seems like everything I see right now I earmark for Christmas presents. :) :)

I was thinking about giving it to my dad for his 50th birthday at the end of the month, but I think it might just be a little too bright/crazy for him. And I also don't really see him getting much use out of a wall-hanging either, which is really the only thing it could be at it's current size... it's a little smaller than 2ft x 2ft.

cutebuns 06-30-2009 05:45 AM

way to go, that is great, I would be tempted to keep going, as long as there is enough scraps.

I don't have enough "scraps" of the colors/fabrics I've been using, but I do still have some yardage of the colors/fabrics. I was thinking about maybe turning it into at least a lapsize quilt, but I'm not really sure what I want to do next. My idea with the whole thing was to kinda do a round-robin type quilt, just on my own.

Quilting Aggi 06-30-2009 07:02 AM

It looks great!!

I have a crumb quilt in the works now. The main area is done and sewn together, I am just working on the borders now.

There's a tute here on the board that Izy did (MISS her!!! ) yours is great - I like your DIY round robin idea! :D

I just checked out the web site for the "crumbs". Looks like a lot of fun to do with a friend or friends, maybe at a retreat! Darling quilts.

This is pretty, can't wait to see more of these. Is this type much like doing a crazy quilt? I don't know that much about quilting but it kind of reminds me of those, but not exactly.

sapdoggie 07-01-2009 05:56 PM

Great work. What fun to use all the leftovers.

Yeah, it's really similar to crazy quilting.
