This is the second Twister I am making. I love how easy this goes together, and I wanted to make a bright one for Spring. This one is for my church group to hand quilt for our March Raffle. I need to get crackin'. The "left overs" will be made into a border and then it will be sized. This is really sew fun!

Aren't these fun. If you are going to use the scraps for a border, be sure you post on here the finished product.

Beautiful :D:D:D

Shemjo 12-11-2010 03:43 PM

I will most definitely take pictures and keep you informed of our progress!

It really is a fun quilt to put together. Takes longer to pull out the fabrics and cut 10 inch squares than it does to cut out the pinwheels!

wanderingcreek 12-11-2010 04:35 PM

I bought one of the rulers at a show I went to and after seeing the ones posted here, I am going to have to try it soon. Lovely quilt!

mommamac 12-11-2010 04:45 PM

so far I've only tried the small template - bet the larger one is twice the fun!

nlgh 12-11-2010 04:52 PM

Is there much waste with that twister ruler? I think I would like to try it. It would be so much simpler to make and less likely to get a pinwheel wrong.

Shemjo 12-11-2010 05:22 PM

Using the large twister to cut out the big squares, and then the little one after joining the left overs from the big pinwheels, there is about a square inch of fabric and some slivers left! This leaves very little scrap! I love it! And those little pieces are going to be used in my label. I will post picture as I go along.

Pretty please.......I'd love to see what you do with the "leftovers," too!!

Love the colors in your top. I'm in the process of making a little twister wreath. Just used green fabric, hope it comes out okay. Love to see the different quilts made with them. Thanks for sharing!!

This is what I do with scraps. These are little mug rugs, only for the cup, They are Rhonda's Boston Blocks. They are 1 1/2" sqaures sewed together to make a 4" square. The second picture is the lil twister using all scraps to make a 10" square, and last this is all scrappy. I made 2 1/2" squares sewed four together to make a 4" square, sashing is 3/4" finished. All these fabrics were in my scrap box.

All made with scrapes 4" squares

All Scraps, 10" square, not bound yet

Very pretty, love the colors.

Fabulous.

Teaquilts 01-26-2011 09:29 AM

Sharon is this one you showed in scrap quilting club? I haven't tried them with the larger squares yet. I have used 6" as my largest size but 10" sure would grow the quilt faster.

Yes, and it is finished, quilted and bound and hanging in church for a Raffle quilt!
I don't think I have a finished totally picture, but here it is getting ready to be quilted! I really like it, and will make more because it does go together quickly!

LOVE the finished product!
I really like the little pinwheels on the side.
Looks great!

Thanks. There are 2 sizes of the tool. When you use the large one, the leftovers are the right size to make the smaller twists! There is about an inch and a half square left over when it is all done. There is some left over for the border material, but the center squares pretty much get used up!
I sewed all the little left overs together, and after I was done found one on the floor! ooops! But this is a good scrap quilt!

All that was left over from the 10 inch squares

Very pretty! I havent tried this quit pattern yet!

klgreene 01-26-2011 12:26 PM

Ok, am I correct in, you used 10" sqaures with the large twister template( not sure how big it is). And the scrap squares large enough to use the little 3 1/2" template? And this is the left overs, not using for twisters. I love the little twisters on the sides. I tried to make a tiny miniature using 1 1/2" squares, but that made the template to tiny. But I'll keep trying until I can make a miniature of this. I just love this pattern. I did make one using a 2 1/2" template.

Nice :-P

quilter2 01-26-2011 12:34 PM

I love the way your quilt turned out, it's beautiful, I really like the little twister's on the side but don't understand how you did them, are they in the border?

I didn't do a very good job of taking pictures as I went. I sewed the left over squares from the middle together and attached a border.

two strips of the left overs with borders

I cut out the small twists

I placed the twists in position

quilter2 01-26-2011 01:20 PM

Thanks for explaining this, I think I understand. What size is your finished quilt? This is the nicest one I've seen using the twister tool.

Shemjo 01-26-2011 01:24 PM

This one is between single and double sized. I don't have that info at hand, but these can be made any size, just increase the number of squares that you start with. Any amount that make a square or rectangle and gofrom there. Any size from a baby quilt/lap quilt to California King. It is a fun one to play with.

Leann 01-26-2011 01:26 PM

Very nice

I tried this horrible nightmare of a quilt, it got tossed out! I am not at all clear as to how you did yours. Could you please explain in detail how you got them all connected. Your quilt is very pretty and so colorful I love it. I think I've seen your individule blocks sashed but not blended together. That is so pretty!

this is so ugly, I had to stop and horribly confusing too!

AlaskaSunshine, I tried a quilt like that as well, and I got so very confused. This pattern with the Twister templates is so much more easy to construct. The pictures I posted with the smaller border is basically the same as the larger size. If you look at the pictures I posted, you can see the template is placed on the seamlines and cut akilter, not on the threadlines. This means you are sewing on the bias, and you must be careful when sewing the final borders, or you will have waves. (Ask me how I know!) Someone else posted better pictures of Twister construction.
Search for Twister and I think it will make more sense.

I have pieced two tops and plan to do more. I have been cutting 10 inch squares from a wide variety of fun fabrics to do another one!

So do u sew 4 10" blocks together in a four patch? Then cut it with a ruler. Do I need a special ruler? I am SOOOOO glad I am not the only one that had difficulty with that horrid one I tried. I was a wreck and pitched it. Even my husband hated tolooks of it

Shemjo 01-26-2011 02:07 PM

I sewed 6 rows across and 8 rows down, if I remember correctly to get the size I wanted. ( You lose some of the length and width because of the way you cut the template out). Then I added a border all the way around. Then I cut out the individual blocks and placed them so I could sew them together correctly.

Teaquilts 01-26-2011 07:27 PM

I LOVE the little twisty borders. Great idea.

maryv 01-26-2011 07:55 PM

Very cool use of both sizes of twisters. LOVE IT!!!
