I'm 70 years old and this is the first quilt i've ever made and i'm so
proud of it, just had to post a picture. I wish I had started quilting
40 years ago.

it's called Roses for Mary - a Jenny
Haskins design.

That's the most beautiful quilt I've ever seen, especially for your first one. Keep up the good work and be sure to show us your next one. I could'nt be more proud of you sis.

Carla P 06-03-2007 01:32 PM

 Oh my goodness!!!! I think you skipped right over "first", "beginner", and "just beginning" and went straight to "award winning", "incredible", and probably "professional"!!! Great quilt!!! (are you SURE you haven't been quilting for 40 years & just don't remember???)

That is beautiful!! Are the bows & flowers broderie perse? If so, what fabric line are they from?

Celeste 06-03-2007 01:45 PM

WOW!!! You sound like a lady who learned to add, subtract, etc. while doing calculus!

I agree with CarlaP and the others! Stunning!

ccbear66 06-03-2007 02:22 PM

That is one of the most beautiful quilts that I have seen. I agree with the others if that is your first quilt I can't wait to see more. My first quilt didn't even come close to that.

Rebecca Chambley 06-03-2007 04:09 PM

That is a real show stopper, Congrats. Display proudly, for all to enjoy.

bettyt 06-03-2007 04:38 PM

I WANT TO THANK EVERYBODY FOR VIEWING MY VERY FIRST QUILT AT AGE 70 AND ALL YOUR GRACIOUS REMARKS, THANK YOU SO MUCH. I HAVE NOW MADE A BLUE ONE JUST LIKE THE PINK ONE AND IT IS AT THE QUILTER'S MACHINE RIGHT NOW. I AM GOING CRAZY MAKING QUILTS, AND YES IT IS EMBROIDERIED, I TOOK CLASSES HERE IN ODESSA TX AND AM GOING TO TAKE SOME MORE CLASSES. I'LL POST ANOTHER PICTURE OF MY BLUE ROSES FOR MARY QUILT (JUST THE TOP), NOT QUILTED YET. I JUST FIGGERED OUT TODAY HOW TO VIEW ALL YOUR NICE MESSAGES.

HERE'S THE PICTURE OF MY 2ND QUILT, ROSES FOR MARY IN BLUE.

dojo36 06-03-2007 08:39 PM

I DON'T KNOW WHAT YOU MEANT, "WHAT FABRIC LINE ARE THEY FROM"
i EMBROIDERIED THEM ON THERE WITH MY NEW EMBROIDERY MACHINE
USING ROBISON ANTON THREADS AND I BOUGHT MY MATERIAL FROM 'THE BOBBIN BOX' HERE IN MY HOME TOWN. SO DON'T KNOW IF THAT EXPLAINS WHAT YOU ASKED OR NOT.

Rebecca Chambley 06-04-2007 12:40 AM

Truly heirloom quality. How long did it take you? Any reason why you made 2, 1 pink, and 1 blue? You emptied the kudo box, Give your self a big big Smile.

dojo36 06-04-2007 04:22 AM

thank you rebecca, it took me 6 weeks to make the top. i didn't do the quilting on it though, i don't know how to do that. my class instructor and the other lady students take theirs to a professional quilter with a long arm machine so that is where i took mine to be quilted. We make the tops and assemble the backing then take it to her then when we pick it up, we have to put the binding on it. i didn't mean to mislead anybody that i did the quilting of it and the reason i made one pink and one blue is because i was so mixed up during the lessons of the first one and made quite a few mistakes on it, so i wanted to make another one to better understand how to do it. the pink first one was so hard for me to understand but the blue one came a lot easier. on the pink one every place i put a butterfly is where i had a goof. then on the blue one i just added some butterflies to enhance it. if yall can see them in the picture. i also put a hummingbird on each one.

Carla P 06-04-2007 05:03 AM

Dojo,

They are both beautiful. Yes, you answered my question; I thought they were appliqued (broderie perse is when you cut out an image from fabric and applique it to the background, hence my reason for asking about the fabric line you used). I had no idea they are embroidered. As far as any mistsakes go, we have adopted the galloping horse theory here, but just so you know, I didn't even see any mistakes at a turtles pace! They are gorgeous!!

dojo36 06-04-2007 05:13 AM

I WISH ALL OF YOU LADIES COULD COME TO ODESSA, TEXAS AND GO TO BETTY'S BOBBIN BOX AND VIEW ALL THE QUILTS IN THERE THAT LADIES HAVE MADE, THEY ARE UNBELIEVABLE PLUS MANY OTHER PROJECTS THAT ARE NOT QUILTS. FOR A PEEK JUST GO TO
BETTYSBOBBINBOX.COM

Rebecca Chambley 06-04-2007 10:16 AM

dojo
Goofs are not in the quilt glossary, just creative ideas to further enhance the beauty of our quilts, and away to use that creativity. I was talking about the quilt and not the quilting. Take a bow, it is grand . And inspiring.

vicki reno 06-04-2007 11:30 AM

I didn't think it could get any better than the pink, but you can certainly put me down for the blue one. Absolutely gorgeous! My son and dil live in Midland, so if you count that, well, we are almost neighbors! :-)

dojo36 06-04-2007 12:22 PM

well yes vicki - we are neighbors aren't we. come to bettysbobbinbox someday, it's in a little shopping strip on Grandview & University, couple doors down from Gatti's pizza place. Betty and her daughter Caren
would love for you to come in. they have instructors that come in and teach everything, it's a wonderful place to hang out, we sew & eat, then eat & sew. and yes Rebecca, one of the ladies at the bobbin box says goofs are not goofs, they are a design opportunity.

Flying_V_Goddess 06-04-2007 12:49 PM

Oh my goodness! You did that on your first try?! Its beautiful! It looks like a quilt that could win that $100,000 quilt contest!

Catherine 06-04-2007 12:52 PM

You did a wonderful job..so talented!! you've inspired us all...I think now we might be alittle shy to post pics of our quilts..I'm tickled pink just to get a block finished!! :D

mawmawbeve_60 06-08-2007 12:32 PM

WOW....Beautiful quilt

dojo36 06-08-2007 12:36 PM

thank you both so much, i was quite proud of it but if i can do it, then anybody can do it with a few classes & instructions and an embroidery machine.

Connie Hadba 06-09-2007 04:48 AM

Jojo,
WOW! Your quilts are abslutely beautiful! You have every right to be exceedingly proud of both of them. I'm green with envy.

How wonderful! You are sure getting into the swing of things....! Keep it up. Arent you glad quilting is so much easier than computers????

vicki reno 07-09-2007 04:08 AM

Very nice. I really think you were never a beginner--you are too modest :!: You started out as advanced but were too shy to say so :D
Good work :!:

dojo36 07-09-2007 06:45 AM

thank you sandra and vicki, i'm really enjoying doing all this. i'm single and live by myself so i have more time than anything else to devote to projects. i can't wait to get one done so i can start on something else, lol.
i'm working on another quilt called aquamarine by jenny haskins, it'll take few more months for it but i'll post it when done.

vicki reno 07-09-2007 07:06 AM

Can't wait to see it :!:
