I bought this quilt at a Quilt Show Consignment Shop for $40.00. Well worth the money, I thought. I think I have identified the block( Yellow tape)but I would like to have the pattern to go by to make another one. Does anyone recognise this pattern?

Tartan 04-14-2012 01:09 PM

It might be a variation of Thinking outside The Box? The pattern was available from ToadUSew?

Geez, you got a steal! I love the quilt and I LOVE the swirl quilting.

GingerK 04-14-2012 01:40 PM

Yes, I know I've seen something similar somewhere (Okay there's that dratted CRS--can't remember sh....tuff--syndrome again). I think it would be fairly simple to draft. More a matter of colour placement than anything else.

EvelynJ 04-14-2012 03:47 PM

Yeah, that was definately worth $40. What a terrific find.

Yup--Thinking Outside the Block, with different colors. I believe the pattern suggests using all the same colors in the block. I bet you could figure it out if you studied the block and drew it out. It's an easy one. This is one I made with the pattern.

I made one for my grandson's graduation in May, and the pattern is achieved by doing a 1/4 log cabin, and arranging the blocks to create a pattern. I will try to load it to show what I mean.
Actually this is the pillowcase that I made to match, and you can see the 1/4 log cabin, which used the red square as the starting piece. If you look at my avatar, you can see him on the far right with the full quilt. A very simple and easy quilt to do. Once you get all the quarter blocks made, you just start laying them out to achieve whatever pattern you want. Good luck.

Isn't it also called Bento Box? Where is the consignment shop in MA? I'm in Metrowest and I'll travel anywhere. I'm thinking you went to the quilt show in Worcester this weekend. It's a beautiful quilt and you did get some buy. Enjoy it!

Thanks for all the input, I actually found one on this board with a graph posted by moreland. Believe it or not I Googled Thinking outside the box and it led me right home to Quilted Paradise. Amazing! Love this place

Camille the shop was at the Hilton Head, South Carolina Quilt Show in March. They had a consignment shop that was fantastic. All the members sold their unwanted quilts and unfinished projects with the marerial to finish them. It was soo tempting. Hundreds of pattern books too!

Maureen 04-15-2012 07:00 AM

Beautiful. Did you use 2 1/4 in. strips? Thats what Im thinking

Maureen 04-15-2012 08:50 PM

The pattern wouldn't download. it was all text.

Dotha 04-15-2012 11:59 PM

Great buy at $40! I like it.

barnbum 04-16-2012 01:33 AM

Funny--I was looking through old quilt magazines and print outs last night (and all week) while I ice a swollen knee and I came across a pattern I'd printed out for Shade Cascade and I said "That's it!" It is the same as Thinking Outside the Block--just the color changes. It was a free pattern I think. Let me know if you need help with directions, I don't want to copy, but it's simple enough to talk you through it.

Gorgeous quilts on show here! Love them and what a steal for $40! It is a variation of thinking outside the box and is called Shade Cascade. Lovely pattern.

Wanabee Quiltin 04-26-2012 03:44 PM

To me, it looks like a variation of a log cabin. This is a really good buy for $40.

delma_paulk 04-26-2012 04:20 PM

That was a GREAT buy! Think I saw this pattern on Keepsake Quilting catalog, cannot remember the name though.
