Your dad's quilt is fantastic! I made one for my brother this year for Christmas, and really struggled finding something he'd like. I used flannels (some plaids) so kept it very simple. I love your pattern, is it one you made up, or can we find it somewhere?

I got an idea from a picture I found on the internet but I didn't use a pattern. I started with 6 1/2 in squares cut from fat quarters. Eyeballed how big for the white corner. It is a 3 1/2 inch square placed on the corner, stitched and then trimmed. I put four of the 6inch squares together to make a 12 inch "snowball". Made 12 snowballs and put on a solid blue 2 inch border. I made 2 x 6 inch bricks and put two rows using a four patch in the corner to make them fit. Some of the bricks get chopped in the corner but that was OK with me. Then I added a 4 inch blue border. The top was still just a touch small so I decided on piano keys all the way around to make it grow to about 58 x 72. I wasn't aiming for a specific size, just something long enough for dad who is 6'2". I used a blue/black tone on tone for the binding because I didn't have enough of the plain blue.
Those 2 blue borders are the only solid fabrics I used. All the others are fat quarters from my stash. The back is navy blue, green, black, red plaid flannel that I bought a while back with him in mind. I have a Grace frame and took two days quilting it. On the bottom blue border I switched to red thread and wrote "Zzz~Shhh~~Nap Time~~Shhh~Zzz" I also stitched "Daddy" in one brick and "Bobby" in another one. (Bobby is what all the grandkids call him)
It went together pretty quickly once I figured what rows to add.
