WOW- thanks for all the votes! I've decided that the pillow shams to match will be the hills and furrows (the zig zag) in smaller log cabins of the same colors, and I have a more complicated pattern for a wall hanging to go with it.

Yes, more pictures are coming as I finish the project(s).

You machine sew the blocks together as if they were just the top of the quilt (just the two pieces on the edge that will be the top), and then you trim the batting so it will lay flat, and hand stitch the backing edges together. It may not have shown in the picture, but there is extra fabric along all of my edges of my current blocks, and the backing piece is larger than the front is. I may need to trim down the edges as I go to square things up. Continue connecting all the blocks together until you have the full quilt. Finally, stitch-in-the-ditch so that the final connections look the same as the SITD log cabin parts.

:-o So that's how you do that! Thank you so much for sharing, I have 4 BOM quilts I'm working on for my grandkids and this would be a faster way to complete them. I'm doing the backing in flannel for warmth.
