My grandaughter will be 8 in June, This will be her gift. I am doing machine applique. These will be all cats. These are the firs three. Should I make them all one color or pink and purple or varied colors...what is your opinion :D

SulaBug 04-10-2009 02:25 PM

Ruth,
Your blocks for your grand daughter are so cute. I like the pink colors, but also think that you could use some lavender's, if you like. I also think a few pastels would be great. You can almost do anything with it. She is going to love it!! :D :D :D

Just the pink looks lovely. Personally I'm a fan of the scrap look, and would opt for more toning colours.

I think I would be guided by your grand-daughter's favourite colours, and then you couldn't go wrong.

I like what you're doing.

I love this! I'm a cat person, and these are just the cutest blocks!! You have a lucky granddaughter! She will cherish this!

BlueChicken 04-10-2009 02:31 PM

I like pink and purple... but as above, it depends on your tastes really.

It's going to look awesome, no matter which colourway you choose. :-)

Roben 04-10-2009 02:32 PM

This is going to be a darling quilt, whichever way you choose! That second photo is awesome, Ruth - I have the hardest time taking pictures of white on white fabric, mine just never come out that good!

omak 04-10-2009 02:45 PM

Nice work!
I am a blue person, and if you put blue anywhere near me on anything, I love the whole thing. Using other colors and putting pink in as an accent, your pink little grandy will love the whole thing, I have no doubt.
But, I think whatever you do, grandydaughter will love it!
Thank you for sharing!

Ruth, please post pictures when you're done!! I would love to see it! I'm guessing it's going to be really beautiful - I love your kitty blocks!!
Either way you do it, whether all pink, or mixed, it's going to look great! :D

Cute! Cute! Cute! She is going to love her kitty quilt :D :D :D

sewjoyce 04-10-2009 04:16 PM

Oh I just love the kitty blocks!!! I like pink and purple together, so that's how I'd vote  But it's gonna be adorable no matter what other colors you do or don't add!!

Moonpi 04-10-2009 04:17 PM

Very cool! I'd go with whichever she likes best.

Debbie1 04-10-2009 05:23 PM

She's going to love it. I think I would do different pastels, but that's just me. I love your kitties!

tlrnhi 04-10-2009 05:41 PM

CUTE, CUTE!!
My opinion? I'd do it in different colors

littlehud 04-10-2009 06:48 PM

Love your blocks. I would do it in lots of different colors. Use her favorites.

sewnsewer2 04-10-2009 06:50 PM

Cute! I'd use different colors, more interesting that way.

Blue Bell 04-10-2009 07:06 PM

I would do different pastel colors. My GD's favorite color WAS purple and she now likes pink. So if you do a mix of colors and she changes her mind, a color will be there if she suddenly likes a different color. Can't wait to see the completed quilt, no matter what you decide to do.

NAIROD 04-10-2009 08:16 PM

I'd stick with all pink checks if you can't get the
checks in other pastels. My next cat quilt will
be twelve of the same block but in the 12 colors
or my last 12 cats.

MadQuilter 04-10-2009 09:24 PM

Oh yeah, cats come in many colors. How cute!

CindyBee 04-11-2009 01:46 AM

So sweet! I like the idea of different pastel ginghams.

jette 04-11-2009 02:34 AM

Cute! Cute! Cute!

Knot Sew 04-11-2009 05:31 AM

Her favorite colors are pink and purple, so I think I will try that, I can always change it. I am not happy with the cat who is sitting on his butt, not quite the right size, so will do that one again

Darlene 04-11-2009 05:59 AM

Your kitties are so cute maybe your sashings could be purple or in a light green.

Justquilting 04-11-2009 07:19 AM

Very cute!! She's going love it!

Ninnie 04-11-2009 07:36 AM

so, so cute! love the pink.

Bevanger 04-11-2009 07:53 AM

i really like what your doing. Being a scrappy gal, i'd say you can go scrappy too. Gosh, i'm stumped cuz i like all the ideas.... ok i'm not much help  but i know whatever you decide, it'll be puuuuuuuuurrrrrfect

GailG 04-12-2009 05:30 AM

Precious blocks. I'm not a pet person, but I do like them on quilts. Have you ever thought about some negative blocks? That is with the pink and white check as the background and the cat white. I think that would be different and interesting. Can't wait to see you picture of the finished quilt. Good luck and give a hug to the recipient.

ania755 04-12-2009 06:35 AM

Ruth, The cats are great but add them some eyes and mostash...(hand embroidery...don't be a chicken)
