1st: laid out! hoping for success

2nd: 3 strips sewn together, other pieces just laying there... should I continue as I already have worked or is there something that will help me make a better quilt?

just keep going like you are...you could make 2 halves, just alike and turn one half, halfway around an it will form a "V" pattern...

Looks like you are pressing all your seams open. Try pressing both sides to the darker fabric. When you do this, the seams "nest" together.

Oh good idea!!!! I know it's so simple and basic and easy but I'm going blindly! haha, practice makes perfect, right?

Another idea on pressing is to press the even number rows to the left; odd rows press the seam the the right. That way when you sew your rows together your seams will "kiss".

You are doing a fantastic job of matching your corners. Keep up the great work. You are already a great quilter!

both great pressing ideas! i will have to try both and see which works best for me :)

Haha I hope my corners look okay...

Thanks for the compliment, very sweet of you!

The corners are always the first thing I look at when I look at quilts others have made (because it took me so long to master them, and I'm always amazed by great corners!!!), and yours do look great!!!! Did you use a 1/4" foot? That was how I finally mastered them!!! That, plus wiggling them together till they were nested just right, and using a bajillion pins.

Haha I just am using the little lines on the machine and hoping for the best :) I have also wiggled em to fit and it seems to be working out!

Looks great so far. When you press your seams first set the seam by laying the iron on the seam before pressing it to the dark side. This in beds the threads, a good thing! I also would try turning half to get that Chevron (V) look if you like it sew it or you can just turn it back again. Do you have a design wall? You can make one by purchasing a vinyl table cloth with the flannel on the underside or some warm and natural and hang it on a wall. Put your pieces on it ( the flannel will hold your pieces there without pinning) step back and take a look at it.

Well now Schnookie I just got back from Hobby Lobby and it's PROBABLY a really good thing I didn't get that wonderful advice before my trip haha or I would currently be turning my bedroom wall into a design wall....
