Seeing as someone wanted to see my stash cupboard, I figured why not post pictures of my whole sewing room... I'm lucky to have a room to myself, we made two of the kids share! lol

I love your fabric storage! Beautiful and useful both. :)

Marcia 04-08-2009 06:27 PM

Yeah--your very own bright and sunny sewing space! It is wonderful.

PS-I like your kitties on the design wall!

Thanks... I have another one coming shortly that a mate has stored in their garage and they don't want. It's the same style, but rectangular rather than circular. Same leadlight glass front though, I can't wait! :-)

Marcia... the cats are a Block of the Month I've been doing called Temple Guardians. It's an awesome quilt when finished. I have all of the blocks now, but have only done two. *hangs head in shame* I'm needleturning them, so they're taking a while.

THAT's what I said! LOL
They have a nice big room, and bunks, and I bribed them with a wee tv in there for the playstation. :-)
My sewing room is generally quite tidy, because it's so small. If I let it get out of hand I start losing stuff and it becomes a nightmare.

You can only just see another one in the window, it's case is in a wardrobe somewhere. They're both old Singers but they still go. :-)

It's so lovely to have your own sewing room!.....:-)

Love your room. Is that the blue and white star exchange quilt in progress in the last picture.

It is :-) Part of the border is pieced on the ironing board in the first picture.

It makes a huge difference doesn't it. I used to sew in the dining room, which meant constantly packing things away. Now I can just wander in there when I feel like it and do a little bit, or a lot, it's no hassle.

Jim's Gem 04-08-2009 06:55 PM

Very nice. I love your fabric cabinet, it's beautiful. Such fun to have your own sewing room!!!

jette 04-08-2009 07:10 PM

Your paper pieced diamond went out very beautiful. I also love your cabinet.
Not strange that quilters are able to tolk all around the world. Our quilting rooms are more or less containing the same. IŽll have to clean upp a lot to show my room. :D
Perhaps a new subject: My sewing room

amma 04-08-2009 07:59 PM

Awesome sewing room :D I like all of the projects around your room, especially the blue and brown block on the wall and the blocks on your ironing board :D :D :D

I have to keep scrolling back to check, how bad is that - I don't remember what's in my own room! LOL The brown, cream, and baby blue block is a BOM from a quilt shop up north. As you can see from my stash, I'm normally into brights and strong colours, this pale combination is a step outside my comfort zone for sure. But I'm liking it.

k3n 04-08-2009 11:26 PM

Great room! I have a tiny room about 6' x8' which is OK for piecing and cutting but my stash cupboard is out on landing and some WIPS hanging over the bannisters! I don't think I would dare put the kids in together though, they'd never sleep!

BlueChicken 04-08-2009 11:51 PM

I have things like batting and backing fabrics stacked in our bedroom, that saves on room. And my quilting frame has to be set up on the dining room table, but I can live with that! lol

tlrnhi 04-08-2009 11:56 PM

Nice room!
I think I need to go to New Zealand. I saw something hanging on the wall in this nice persons sewing room and it looks like it REALLY needs a good home. Really cute, cute CUTE wallhanging you have there! BOTH of them!

BlueChicken 04-09-2009 12:01 AM

LOL

Anyone travelling over here will be more than welcome. They will, however, be frisked upon leaving! lol

Quilt4u 04-09-2009 01:03 AM

Very nice.

PrettyKitty 04-09-2009 02:09 AM

Lovely! You have a nice space to work in, and I also love the Temple cats. I just googled them, what a lovely story and quilt to do.

For anyone else interested:

Now, I wish I knew how to applique and wish I could afford it!

Thanks for sharing!

Cheers for that! :-)
I signed up for this not long after getting my first siamese cat. The version we're doing is on a gorgeous blue/tealy coloured background. But the story included in each month is about a little kitten, smaller than the rest, who struggles to keep up with his litter mates. His name is Jing-Reet, which is Thai for Cricket. He ends up saving the day, proving inner strength is what counts.
A couple of weeks ago we took in a Siamese kitten who has a grade 4 heart murmur. She may not have a long life, but she's tearing around the house like a mad thing, eating really well, growing steadily, and getting into mischief. Everything a kitten should be doing, albeit a bit slower than anyone else. She has a home here and will be loved for as long as she lives, whether it's a week, a month, or years. We named her Jing-Reet, or Jing for short. :-)

Very nice sewing room. Love your kitty wall hangings.

Knot Sew 04-09-2009 04:17 AM

What a wonderful room. You are so neat. I want to be but just can't seem to keep it up...a charter flaw I guess, messy mind :D

reneebobby 04-09-2009 04:46 AM

I agree very nice and I just love the cats.

LindaR 04-09-2009 04:47 AM

great! crazy question? Do you like your sewing machine that high? Are you a tall person.

Bevanger 04-09-2009 05:30 AM

Great room. It looks cozy and fun to play in :D

Actually I'm quite short... only 5'4" in shoes. I find that I hunch over it at normal height, to see what I'm doing, and end up with a killer sore neck and shoulders.
By raising the machine I've stopped hunching over it. I had it sitting on a couple of phone books, which was highly unstable, so my partner made me a little wooden shelf, and it has a drawer to hide bits and pieces in.

sewjoyce 04-09-2009 03:26 PM

I love your room. And, yes, children need to learn to share -- especially if their mother's sanity depends on her having her own sewing room

Love the cat appliques!! Where did you get the pattern(s)?

Linsoblu 04-12-2009 11:51 AM

Very, very nice I trying to figure out how all of you gal's who have put pictures of their sewing rooms keep them so clean? Hey! mine never looks that clean I wouldn't let anyone take a picture of it fabric on the daybed. Pieces of fabric on the floor it's well used.

Janstar 04-12-2009 12:13 PM

Great room Chicken! It's so bright and has everything you need. Love all your projects, blue and white quilt and kitties, etc. I'll show mine off oneday when I ever get my stash organized.

QuiltyLisa 04-12-2009 12:21 PM

I love the stash cabinet.. having your own sewing room to me is a godsend.. my friend has to use the dining room and every day its picking stuff up dragging stuff out.. that would make me crazy.. I pray the every quilter everywhere will one day have thier own sewing room:)

BlueChicken 04-12-2009 01:40 PM

It makes life so much easier having your own space. I'm now eyeing up the bigger bedroom and thinking of shifting the kids in here instead! LOL
The benefit of being in a small room though is that I *have* to keep it fairly tidy. So it's forcing me to be more organised and not have too much out at the same time.

So, it's like my DH says. You've taken up the whole house with your quilting.

My "sewing" room is 12 x 12, but I have other things going in there as well. The closet houses out of season clothing, WIPs, hopeful projects, batting, Christmas decorations, etc, etc, etc. The armoire houses books, office supplies. Our home files are in there as well as my scrapbooking things. I could never air my pictures to you people. I have only a path to different areas of the room. AND THEN, I have Rubbermaids (holding some of my stash) in our bedroom. [I've read that one's bedroom should not be used for storage. It causes insomnia. It's no wonder I'm an insomniac!]

LindaR 04-13-2009 05:56 AM

my DH complains sometimes....everyroom has either a quilt or one in progress...my chair has its own little pile "to be done"....I don't complain about his garage. LOL

I'm lucky.... being a tradesman my partner is a great believer in having the right tools for the job, and having a good workspace.
