Nine Day Miracle Quilt

Some time between 2002 and 2005 I was invited to a baby shower overseas, and decided that I wanted to make something instead of shopping. I had a coffee table book about sewing, and one of the pages showed a crazy quilt method using blue ticking and bits of red, I think. Anyway, it was based on doing random shapes onto 9 inch squares of muslin. Sounded easy enough. So I went to a fabric store and rummaged through their scrap table to grab some vivid colors for baby to enjoy. Found batting, and a warm blanket-like fabric to use for the backing. Home again I began cutting the 9 inch canvases. First done were the four blocks with no appliqués. Then I got the idea to put a sunshine in one corner. Rainbow seemed a logical addition. Then I started wondering what to put in the other "sweet" spots. I do think the Spirit of God led me through the next thoughts which had me nearly jumping up and down as the design unfolded for the Noah's ark story... with the added lightning bolt. The inspiration felt miraculous, but the fact that from inspiration to presentation encompassed only nine days, and I was working outside the home at the time, so had only the evening hours to use. Had no YouTube tutorials or sewing coaches along side, had to cut my own binding and figure out a method for framing the blocks. And the hardest part was giving it away, but God let me see the quilt used for three baby boys in the gifted family over the next few years. Recently saw a post where another boy had graced that family. Wonder if the quilt made it for that boy, too? Miracles do happen!
