Not a block I would do for an entire quilt!

A friend in UK won a lottery block of her choice and she chose this Patchy Heart Block from Quilterscache.com I don't mind making 1 or 2 of these but really would not want to make LOTS of these blocks for a quilt, not my 'cup of tea', had to use 21 different color fabrics and a cream background, mostly Thimbleberries fabrics. I like fast and easy, LOL.

I love the block. I to like fast and easy.

deanneellen 02-02-2013 01:02 PM

It really is pretty but does seem like a lot of work. Wondering if using a package of 5" Charm squares would work and then just cut the size of the squares needed for this block?

quiltinggirl 02-02-2013 01:05 PM

Ooooh, but this block is so beautiful. I really like the fabrics. :)

sassy granny 02-02-2013 01:26 PM

I love the block. It doesn't look too complicated. I would machine piece it and cut down on time involved. It would make a beautiful quilt.

Seems like a wonderful block to use up scraps. Make a beautiful scrappy quilt.

Floralfab 02-02-2013 01:56 PM

It made into a pretty block but I can understand how you feel. I like things faster as well.

wraez 02-02-2013 02:16 PM

There might be a faster easier way to make this but don't think so. It calls for 17 different 2" fabric sqs, and 4 different 3.75" qtr sq triangles. http://www.quilterscache.com/P/PatchyHeartBlock.html

Now I'm thinking that since this uses such small pieces of fabric/scraps, I might just sew some together now and then put them in a box until a bunch stack up and then finish off some more heart blocks. I do like the block

Thinking too that 2-4 long 2" strips sewn together of different fabrics and then cut into 4 patches would work up fast. Hmmmm , might try that too.

Love the pattern--wonderful for using up scraps. I know--just like you I like quick. Thanks for sharing! :)

Sandra in Minnesota 02-02-2013 02:35 PM

Love the fabrics and color choices. I would make a whole quilt out of those.

Teeler 02-02-2013 02:52 PM

But it's so PRETTTYYYYYYYY! Wow, look at your perfect seams/points! I aspire to be so good.

The # of squares wouldn't deter me so much as the 'heart' shape. I have this THING about heart shaped anything...too sappy. But I really do like your rendering.

wanttobe 02-02-2013 03:07 PM

I love this block

Diane007 02-02-2013 04:49 PM

very pretty block
I like it

sniktasemaj 02-02-2013 05:22 PM

The pattern would be great for a scrappy quilt.

love to sew 02-02-2013 06:08 PM

I made nine of these to add to the bottom of a scrappy that I want to be longer. They do take time but I already had the 2" sqs and was using the leader and ender method from Bonnie Hunter. I have not added the strips all around yet as I need to fit it to the size I need. Had to stop and sew something else for awhile. I'll be posting when I finish because Im doing a UFO each month. But this one will not be February's.

Grandma Peg 02-02-2013 06:18 PM

What a pretty block.

Peggy Jeanne 02-02-2013 06:20 PM

It is very pretty!

SheriR 02-02-2013 06:27 PM

Oh I really like this. I think it would work with any size squares, even 1.5" and 2.5" that I seem to be addicted to. :D

Jingle 02-02-2013 06:44 PM

Very pretty. I am sewing squares together also and it is pretty boring. Already had them cut from years ago. I prefer the strip method. Much more accurate and easier matching.

mighty 02-03-2013 08:02 AM

Really pretty!

blueangel 02-03-2013 10:49 AM

zzmom 02-03-2013 11:36 AM

That sure is pretty!

nannyrick 02-03-2013 11:52 AM

That is a beautiful block. I love it.

Jennie and Me 02-04-2013 12:37 PM

I made a queen sized quilt with that block for my bff. I made it scrappy.

Mariposa 02-04-2013 12:40 PM

Great job on the block! COuld be a bit time consuming, but would make a great scrappy!

Helen S 02-04-2013 12:56 PM

I like it! I think I'd sew strips of the different fabrics together, then cut to width and then sew those together, mixing them up.

serenitybygrace 02-04-2013 03:10 PM

I love this pattern and the block you've made. I am with you, though, I think I would spread out making these blocks and keep them in a box until I got enough done.

Judith1005 02-04-2013 03:34 PM

It's really pretty. I hope the person you made it for loves it. I like yours enough, I'd try it at least once!

Justquilting 02-04-2013 04:29 PM

I love this block...I'm thinking it would make a wonderful baby quilt...thanks for sharing

fred singer 02-04-2013 04:45 PM

very pretty block

hudgoddess 02-05-2013 06:44 AM

I'm getting to a point where a lot of my fabric storage is scraps. I wonder if I have the discipline to start making that postage stamp quilt I've been thinking about. If I just do sections here and there, eventually it gets done, right?
Discipline. Hmmmmm.

wolph33 02-05-2013 07:00 AM

great looking block.I have some of those fabrics too

4EVERquilt 02-05-2013 08:39 AM

It's a pretty block.

gabeway 02-05-2013 12:01 PM

Looks really nice though. Love the more complicated about half the time.

Donna 66 02-05-2013 03:03 PM

Really a lovely block. I've been making some heart and pink/rose/white blocks to finish up a swap I did three years ago. I't almost a top. I love your (or her) color choices--thanks for sharing.

BizzieLizzie 02-06-2013 03:06 AM

Very nice block. I think that I would have to be in the mood to make a full sized quilt but I would make one. Also, I would possible make the squares about 3cm or 4cm big to make fairly large sized blocks! :D It is a lovely block. Thank you for sharing. :)

oneteappot 02-06-2013 06:56 AM

I love this block. Very pretty!

PolkaBabe 02-06-2013 09:24 AM

That would be a good mug rug, pot holder, frame it & hang on the wall, work around it & make a bag, pillow.
