Okay, here is my newb moment. I set out today to make a quilted quilters apron. I quilted it, pieced pieces together, started sewing....everything was going great. I got to the very last bit of sewing the sections and then bam! there was a spot on the fabric. I am guessing it was the oiling I gave my machine this morning, the goop inside looks suspect. Does anyone know how to get this stuff out? I didn't want to wash it before asking someone. I will most likely put something over the top of it, but still want to know in case it happens in the future. The fabrics are a really durable denim type fabric.
Thanks! http://i135.photobucket.com/albums/q...g/DSCN9339.jpg http://i135.photobucket.com/albums/q...g/DSCN9340.jpg |

oh darn! I oiled my machine this morning too and before I started quilting I did a practice run on some scraps and good thing I did....cuz I got an oil spot on it!
I have this site bookmarked but have never had to try any of these methods....but here ya go...hope you can get it out http://www.ehow.com/how_13515_remove-oil-grease.html?ref=fuel How To Remove Oil or Grease Stains From Fabric | eHow.com Here are more: http://www.curbly.com/Chrisjob/posts/3265-How-To-Remove-Oil-Stains-from-Clothing-and-Fabric- How To Remove Oil Stains from Clothing and Fabric. » Curbly | DIY Design Community « Keywords: stain, oil, removal, alternative_uses http://www.doityourself.com/stry/stains4 How to Remove Stains: Petroleum Jelly, Oil, Grass Stains | DoItYourself.com |
Thanks Patsy! I think what happened is when I started folding up the material to sew, a bit of it somehow got onto the part of the machine that holds the needle, which had gotten a bit yucky. I had wiped it down earlier, but it had gotten the gross black oily stuff on it again. Of course the one time I need baby powder I don't have any in the house :D I am washing it right now in the dishwashing liquid to see if that helps! Many thanks again!

very pretty. good idea. i would use NEW DAWN dish soap.
|
I have found that Dawn dish soap gets out most of my grease stains. You could also try oxyclean. Just check it before you dry it. If the stain is not out do not dry it.
|
I use shampoo for oil stains too. I think Alex Anderson recommends cornstarch.

How about embroidering something over it...
|
I use "spray and wash" or "shout."
|
I'd just stick an applique on it and be done with it.
