I just wanted to see if I can figure out the picture thing here. This is my last One Block Wonders made for my hubby. He loves to wear those floral Magnum P.I. shirts so I had to try it out in a quilt. It came out better than I imagined, I call it Drifting Snow. Do you name all your quilts too?

Ooohhhhh, I love that.

Ducky 06-09-2009 09:00 AM

Ow, wow! That is gorgeous!! I've not done a One Block Wonder -- they look intimidating. I've never named any of my quilts, but it's never too late to start

quiltsRfun 06-09-2009 09:13 AM

This is amazing! I love it!

Yvonne 06-09-2009 09:13 AM

Love your quilt. Great name for it.

I name all my quilts too. The quilts usually gain a name while I'm working on them. The names just "happen"!

reneebobby 06-09-2009 09:16 AM

Very nice and it looks like drifting snow.

kluedesigns 06-09-2009 09:31 AM

now thats an awesome blue & white quilt!

Ninnie 06-09-2009 09:32 AM

That's beautiful!

Shemjo 06-09-2009 09:49 AM

That is one beautiful quilt! It certainly DOES look like drifting snow!

Mplsgirl 06-09-2009 09:49 AM

How did you do that? It's lovely.

Lisa T 06-09-2009 09:59 AM

What a great name- the snow sort of being the "opposite" of the Hawaiian print. And it's so pretty! I love it.

I always say I want to make one of these but have never started. Do they have set-in seams?

ai731 06-09-2009 10:23 AM

What an amazing and beautiful quilt! And I love the name, too!

This is beautiful! I love it! The Ks are like snowflakes. These are my latest 'big thing' I've nearly finished piecing my second. Do you do the same as me? Piece the hexs in halves then join them in rows? So no set in seams, Lisa! :D

Oh my goodness! Thank you all for the nice comments! No set in seams, they go together in rows of half hexagons. Really easier than it looks. Maybe this pic will show it a little better.

k3n 06-09-2009 10:53 AM

Yup that's how I do it - fun isn't it? Jenell I just posted a barrage of questions on your 'Introduce Yourself' topic!

And here is the fabric I started out with. It's not the same as the borders.

k3n 06-09-2009 10:58 AM

That is a beautiful fabric! See, I would never have thought of using that with just two colours but it works beautifully - and I LOVE blue and white anyway! Thanks so much for posting the pic!

dunster 06-09-2009 11:39 AM

That is a beautiful quilt - good job! I have wondered how well a 2-color fabric would work in a OBW, and obviously it works very well.

SulaBug 06-09-2009 12:03 PM

I just love your new quilt!! :D
The colors are terrific & the design
so unique. It's great!!
:D :D :D :D

Debbie1 06-09-2009 12:20 PM

azdesertrat 06-09-2009 12:38 PM

that is awesome!

pittsburgpam 06-09-2009 12:52 PM

Wow! That is pretty! I never knew how those went together and I would have guessed set in seams.

Thanks for sharing your work.

Lacelady 06-09-2009 01:50 PM

Brilliant, I love it, and great idea to halve the hexagons, then sew in straight rows. I'll have to try that.

beachlady 06-09-2009 02:00 PM

That is so beautiful Looks like a snow storm with more flakes a coming! Gorgeous!!!

gcathie 06-09-2009 02:25 PM

Kyiav10 06-09-2009 06:05 PM

littlehud 06-09-2009 06:31 PM

Very cool quilt. Most of mine have names. If the quilt gives me problems it might not be a very nice name.

gaigai 06-10-2009 05:51 AM

That is so pretty! And it does look like snow. Isn't it amazing how the OBW changes the look of the fabric!

omak 06-10-2009 10:02 AM

That does it!
I thought I knew what a one block wonder was, and now, I can see that I didn't have a clue ...
And, people think I know EVERYTHING HAH!
It is a beautiful quilt, and now, I am going off to find the concept for a one block wonder!

oooh how exciting Omak - another convert! Show us when you've made one! :D

kd124 06-10-2009 10:45 AM

Gorgeous! Perfect name for the quilt. I name some of my quilts but not all. I am working on a One Block Wonder right now and need to have it finished by Juy 9 when I go to my HS reunion. It is for my oldest (timewise not age) and dearest friend.

Ducky--it really is a lot easier than it looks. I chain piece mine, so it goes really fast.

billswife99 06-10-2009 10:59 AM

My gosh I just can't believe all the replies here! I have been searching forever for a forum that talks about these!

Here is a link to the book, are we allowed to do this here?

http://www.amazon.com/One-Block-Wond...4659820&sr=8-1

I had signed up for a class in this and it got canceled, so I sat down with my book and went page by page. If I can do it, anybody can!!!

omak 06-10-2009 11:16 AM

Like I need another book in my "library"!
So, I called my LQS and the owner is busily seeking the book ... I will stop in at three (following an interview of some kind) to see if we can find the one I remember seeing in there.
I PROMISE! This is the LAST book I will buy!
