Going through my things I came across this vintage fabric. No idea where I got it now. lol
I know a lot of people on here have made the OBW quilts. Do you think this is a good fabric for one? repeat is 12 and 3/8 inches. |
Looks good to me..but I've only done 1 OBW so far :) I think your fabric will make a nice OBW
I've only seen them, have not made one yet - but from what I've seen I'm thinking that is going to be stunning! I love the contrast between the blue and the pink.
i think you might end up with a lot of blocks that look pretty much the same - not that there's anything wrong with that - it would have a watercolor quilt effect.
here's a OBW with a pattern outcome like you might have except of course her colors are totally different.
the blocks blend into the one next to it, i personally like the look but many people on this thread preferred when she put a solid triangle to separate them http://www.quiltingboard.com/t-111975-1.htm |
I think it will be wonderful.
Thanks everyone. The nice thing about it is I can try it both ways but I think I like it with the solid triangles. Its going to be fun though trying to find a color to match/blend well with the vintage colors.
I think that's a good one...you've got blue and green and the "pop" would be pink.
There will be alot of blue area, could be pretty, soft water feel. Try a couple of blocks and see how you like it. It really is a personal opinion when it come to OBW.
I think it's going to look great!!
I think it will be very pretty. I made a OBW with alot of colors and I'm not wild about it. The next one will be 3 colors. The blocks come out alot nicer IMHO! Go for it!
Oh this will be a beautiful Obw quilt. good choice.
I think it will be beautiful. To check you could set up a couple of mirrors to get the effect of the kaleidoscope design. It does look like a fairly long repeat, so you will need quite a bit of the fabric for 6 (or 8) repeats.
I meant to add - if it's a vintage fabric, and if it has been washed (or needs to be) you might have a problem. It's recommended that the fabric for a OBW not be pre-washed. That makes it easier to line up the design elements in the layers. |
Yes, yes, double yes!!!! And like dunster said, hold up a couple of mirrors. But I think it is safe to say yesssss!!!!
gorgeous fabric, it should make a great obw. How about the deep rose for triangles?
its a gorgeous fabric...and look so soft as a OBW...a nice watercolor effect for sure
That should work well. What size are the flowers? Be sure to cut your strips slightly smaller so that you really chop into them. Have you got the book?
It has been washed. Since I have a reaction to the chemicals in fabrics everything hits the washer before I even handle it to any great extent.
I think if I go with a solid colour it would be green not a big fan of pink for some reason. My room is green and I really Need to make a quilt for my bed. |

I think if I go with a solid colour it would be green not a big fan of pink for some reason. My room is green and I really Need to make a quilt for my bed. I highly recommend the book. It really does have a lot more information than any tutorial. If you're making a OBW, you won't be using any other fabric in your blocks, but you might want another fabric or two if you're making the hollow cubes. You will probably also want another fabric for inner borders. Stack & whack does use secondary fabrics in the blocks, but it's a completely different (and beautiful) look. Wow, a OBW for a bed! It will be lovely, in such soft colors. It will take a big design wall to lay the blocks out, which is the reason (I think) that we seldom see OBW's bigger than wall size. That step is the most challenging part of a OBW. It will also take a *lot* of the OBW fabric. Be sure to post it when you're done - can't wait to see it. |

A. Get the book B. Use unprewashed fabric. But.. I did just order the book. I found a place where it was 15.99 and free shipping. They have free shipping on all their books. I like that! |
Ermmm I think Gai meant DON'T use prewashed fabric! LOL Anyway, if you have to, you have to. Just do like dunster said and take extra care to line the repeats up. And I know you won't regret investing in the book - it's really worth it.

I'm not sure, it is a bigger print and would get seperate of two colors but I would be happier if there were a third color in there.
Do a stack and whack. You would have borders to help divide the designs because of the same color nature of the fabric |
