I need some opinions on which color of border I should add to this quilt. I need to make it longer and as you can see it is square I need a border at the top and bottom and then another one on all sides. Please let me know what you think.. I am open to any ideas on this border situtation. Please help!!!
(The black is not on the quilt it is the rug it is sitting on!!) |
sorry I know I need to iron it.. it looks bad but it is in progress here... :)
That is stunning. What about a narrow purple border and then black? It looks really good on the black rug.
yea definately let it see and IRON lol.. LUV YA JACKSON!
If you are wanting to make it a rectangle, I would add a row at either end of squares and set every other one on point, so it would be square/diamond/square/diamond..... just like they are in the block. They could be all purple, or alternating colors. If you alternated pink and yellow, then your final border could be purple. That's the first thing that came to my mind. It's a pretty block. Good job!
I don't know what to use for borders but it sure is pretty!
What about using the same colors, and star pints and making a harlequin type of arrangement to add to the top and bottom to make rectangular.
I would also put in a small border to define the center before I added the other strips, then border the same all around. |
You have lost her on Harlequin.. could you explain it a little more.
I immediately thought a white border all around would draw out the white and make it all sparkle. I also like the idea of another row of blocks on point on the top and bottom. I love the color combination.
I love the idea of a white inner border too but I wouldn't get too complicated on borders b/c the the quilt is so lovely and intricate on its own. I vote plain borders- narrow white, then maybe one of the colors in the quilt. I really don't think black does anything for it.
Great job!!!!!!!!!!!! :D |

I'd try a narrow yellow. a narrow white and then a wider purple.
I think any of the colors will be great. Very pretty BTW!
Ok Pam I am understanding.. she is just going to fold it back up until I get there.... sometimes 2 brains is better than one... well in this case our husbands say we have 1 brain between the 2 of us .. but who listens to THEM anyway!
Thanks for all the advice... |
LOL
My first thought was to add some light blue to set off the wonderful light and bright colors.
The colors make me think of sunrise/sunset. Nice block (center).
There is a book called "the border workbook" that has patterns for pieced borders that you could use to lengthen the top and bottom evenly and compliment your star. I would start with a narrow yellow or white border, then a couple pieced borders and end with a thicker border to tie it all together. Your quilt is beautiful, I hope to try one of these patterns someday!
:) |
First, I love the treatment of the Texas(radiant?) star pattern and the colors your picked.
I would audition the white border and make sure it doesn't detract from the white already in the quilt before cutting any fabric... Another idea might be to finish the on-point pieced squares you have at the top and bottom (you could throw some interesting quilting motif in the solid yellow that would come out of that), and then do a diamond-in-square border to finish out the row. (If I were at home, I'd throw this into EQ6 and show you what I mean, but I'm at work on my lunch break) |
Very Pretty!!! :D:D:D
I like the idea of adding a white border and then add rows to the ends. |
it is a beautiful quilt, honestly just about any kind of border would look lovely.
but i agree with plain borders instead of any fancy ones, more to frame your design than to distract from it :D i do think the black frames it nicely, but seems it should have at least 2. maybe a thinner 1 with one of the colors in the design :D |

this is what I was talking about (forgive the horrible sketch - best I can do at work)
Maybe if you want to have a darker border, pick colors in the quilt and get darker shades of them.
Quilt you win the prize!!!!! We like it! Thanks so much...
Try a small 1 1/2 - 2" inner border as a resting place then a wider (maybe purple) border. This is a stunning quilt. Love you colors. Very energizing.
wow.. I have a LOT of great ideas now.. I am going to play with it and I will see what happens.. If you think of something else PLEASE share...Thank you all sooo much!!
Quilt - what would you put in the corners if you do your idea on the sides?? I think that makes the block look finished... I love the idea. |

I'm so useless when these questions arise. I like what you've done so far.
I think a dark orange flange between a narrow yellow border and a black outer border would really make it pop!!
I'd suggest a white small border followed by a wider yellow. The white pops the colors while the yellow bookends it since your middle star is yellow.
No matter how you do it, it's really pretty! |
This is a gorgeous quilt already!
I really like Quiltilicious' idea to continue the squares on either end to get the length. Then I would suggest a narrow gold/yellow border to match the center and a wider border of either the pink or the purple, depending on which you want to emphasize most. |
I don't know if I can explain this, but I'll try. I would duplicate the lower middle and top middle on-point "block, then use the pink polk a dot fabric on either side ending with a purple and yellow four patch or half square triangle under the pink end blocks. If the center portion needed to be wider, just add a contrasting color to the bottom to make it the width you need.

thanks for the ideas... I have sooo many options now!! LOVE IT.. thanks!!!
i would pick any of two fabrics u used and make two narrow borders.like 2 1/2 inch.
I love the look of the black. It would make a wonderful border.

I like the black. Glue it down to the rug and you're all set! LOL just kidding.
