Over 6,400 piece wallhanging

This is my first post, been trying to figure out how. I hope it works. Thanks to all for all the pictures and good info on the board. I usually make bedsize quilts, but made this wallhanging. It is not your usual quilt pattern. It is made from a small portion of a cross stitch pattern. I am sorry, I can't remember the book. It is 40x40 inches not including the border. Each block is 1/2" square. I just matched fabric to
the color needed for the cross stitch thread. Each X on the cross stitch pattern is a 1/2" block.

HOLY COW!!! What a wonderful piece of work!! The patience. . . . . . AWESOME!!
Question?? How long did you work on it?

MamaBear61 01-25-2013 10:27 AM

Wow, that is spectacular. I wish I had that kind of patience and discipline.

Dingle 01-25-2013 10:28 AM

All I can say is WOW! I use to x-stitch all the time. Never thought of trying something like this. Great job.

Jamiestitcher62 01-25-2013 10:29 AM

Looks like Ellen Maurer-Stroh's cross stitch to me. I have all her florals in cross stitch. Pretty freakin' cool, if you ask me. Nice job.

BrendaK 01-25-2013 10:31 AM

My first thought was "HOLY COW". (I must be related to Grama Lehr). This is something else, can't even think how long this took you, and the patience you must have. You have done a work of ART. Thanks for sharing. BrendaK

quiltstringz 01-25-2013 10:37 AM

Thanks for sharing - that is awesome. I had thought about doing that and then when I figured out how many pieces thought better.

DebraK 01-25-2013 10:38 AM

totally amazing!

nygal 01-25-2013 10:38 AM

It is stunning. I love counted cross stitch too. Did you piece each white background square too?

Diane007 01-25-2013 10:39 AM

very nice what size are your pieces

PaperPrincess 01-25-2013 10:49 AM

Wow, I had thought about doing this, but not with half inch squares! This is just spectacular. Welcome to the board, I'm looking forward to seeing some of your other work.

Tartan 01-25-2013 10:51 AM

WOW, a lot of work in that! It looks incredible! It reminds me of the guy that did The Last Supper in tiny square pieces.

Chasing Hawk 01-25-2013 11:27 AM

That is amazing and very beautiful.

I see your welcome here is about 14 months late......... Welcome home, Nana!

Holy cow! is right. This is beautiful and amazing. What dedication! What a treasure you've created!

AlienQuilter 01-25-2013 12:31 PM

That is really beautiful!

I did one similar a few years ago only it was an owl. I watched Eleanor Burns take a cross stitch pattern and do this. She used gridded fusible. I cut out a lot of one inch squares and ironed them to the fusible grid. Then you just do all the horizontal seams then you do all the vertical seams. The hardest part was cutting all the squares and of course the counting! The one inch squares turned into 1/2" finished squares. The unfinished owl took up my entire six foot dining table! But then, it shrunk to half that size after all the seams were sewn.

I will see if I can find the video.

very pretty, must have taken you a long time!

Geri B 01-25-2013 01:59 PM

That is beautiful. I just watched the E Burns utube video.......looks almost like I would like to try to do a small one. Has anyone worked w/that fusible interfacing? Does it make the piece bulky? I think I will go to EB website and see if she has a book on this. I think JoAnn's sells that gridded interfacing......do I dare pursue this????? or will it be another ufo??????

busy fingers 01-25-2013 02:32 PM
