I finished this in Feb. just in time to give it to my friend as a late Xmas, Retirement, Birthday present (nothing like covering all the bases). She plans to use it in their new cabin on the lake.
It turned out well so plunged in right away on a full size Carol Doak pattern. It is very slow going so hope I live long enough to complete it.
Question -- the background is black -- do I need to use a black batt and backing? I read once that you should never use a backing that is lighter than your darkest color but I haven't always adhered to that rule. This time I'd like to do everything right (for a change)!!!

Your wallhanging is gorgeous! I, too, will be interested to see what others say on this question. I recently made a tablerunner for Christmas, It was similar to yours with a light center and dark borders. I used the regular warm and natural batting, quilted it and it came out very nice, no poke thrus. Anxious to hear what others will say.

i think it would depend on how dark the quilt is as a whole, the batt would probably be good black but not necessarily the back, maybe a med/dark print. i like print backs because the boo boos don't show up like a neon light.
