Pepperdine Valentine made by Susa
5 Attachment(s)
I just have to share this darling quilt with all of you. Susa designed this top, and collected just the perfect fabrics to put this quilt together. Susa was inspired by valentines she received when in the 3rd grade at Pepperdine Elementary School. These valentines were long forgotten until they were discovered in a box in her mother's home after her mother passed away. Most of the valentines were from the school valentine party; however, one or two date further back to probably somewhere in the 1930's. Susa took muslin and the valentines to a company that printed the valentines off onto the muslin, retaining the original colors. (I bet many of you could pick out identical valentine of some you received when in elementary school - I know I did and its been over 50 years since I was in elementary school!) You will notice that the valentines are different sizes, but Susa did a wonderful job arranging them with all the different heart fabrics she had collected, adding a small black sashing around each valentine. Also take a close look at the backing fabric Susa found. Can you believe-Valentines?!!! Susa is so very talented with all her quilts and she always has a very interesting story behind each one as to what inspired her. Sure wish I could have kept this one for myself!!

Great quilt and the valentines look familiar! I always gave everyone in my class a valentine card but I picked the prettiest for my special friends. Do they even do that in school today? I remember the week before the teacher would have us make a large heart shaped envelope to use as our mail box.
