Wow, what an incredible selection to be able to get up close and personal with. They are all brilliant. I especially like the quilt with the four ladies - that was awe inspiring. I wish I could do something like that. And the other black/white one is technically brilliant - such awkward shapes. Thank you for sharing you photos. The next best thing to being there ourselves.

That black, white and beige one is really amazing, isn't it? All of them were fun to look at. Thanks for posting the pics.
|
Ooh, the Mother Earth is even better looking! The black and white quilt is amazing! Great show. Thank you for sharing.
|
stunning....
|
I love everyone of them especially Mother and her Children
|
Beautiful quilts. Especially love that one with the old ladies
|
that just makes me ill, I look at those and feel like such a newbie.
they are so great. |
Wow, those are incredible beyond words. Stunning!

The Black& White looks like it must have been made by - can't remember her name. She used to live in Saudia Arabia, but she's English and is back in England. She's won MANY awards. Crap - why can't I remember her name? She designs by making a real-size drawing and making paper templates from it. Then she FMQs. She's a real artist in so many ways.
Although, now after looking more closely at the quilting, it LOOKS like a different style of FMQ. |
THANK YOU!!!!!
You got the four sisters, which was one of my favorites. The quilt is even more awesome in real life. though your photos are very good. Anyone else get pictures? I would so love to see photos of those nature scene quilts. (which inspired what follows) I got my show guide and googled the names of some of these, and they're on the web! So here are links: Open Season was my top favorite, the one I would have voted on if I'd known I could vote: http://www.englanddesign.com/gallery/openseas.htm The picture doesn't at all do it justice. Crossing Calamity Creek was one of my favorites. This photo doesn't begin to do it justice - it's not all shadowy the way it looks here. It is totally worth the $12,000 price, and if I had the money, I'd buy it. http://www.kathymcneilquilts.com/qui..._for_sale.html Longing for the Past http://www.nancyprince.com/Quilt_Gallery.html Scroll down to the winter scene, that's the one, and mouse over it to enlarge it. Nebraska's Rising Sun http://nsqg.org/raffles.html Again, you have to scroll down to see it. Cool Camels of Egypt was one of the funnest ones in the show, IMO. http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2197/...2084f7.jpg?v=0 http://flickr.com/photos/truvy57/3644762412/ I loved this one and the story behind it, that the artist paints other artists at their work, so this woman quilted his portrait. Morning Visitor http://www.quiltfest.com/activities_detail.asp?id=44 You have to scroll wayyy down to see this one, but all the others on the way are worth seeing, too. Sugar maples & Nose Stickers http://www.vqf.org/images/2009winners/413-MachEmb.jpg Remembrance (this pic is just a detail of it) http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_QgAunQmFlM.../njquilt14.jpg An Alphabet http://www.quiltfest.com/activities_detail.asp?id=79 Again, must scroll to see. Seasonal Sisters http://www.handiquilter.com/educator...adors/hgodden/ The picture doesn't show the amazing stitchery of the background, which acutally dazzled me more than the [quilt picture itself. I'd best stop now. Hope you enjoyed them! |
another great quilt show/trip, right here in my chair.
I love them all. Thank you for the close up of the cherubs with the silk ribbon embroidery. I love the four women, the dynamics of the black and white, the mother and children... Like a smorgasboard. I know you thoroughly enjoyed yourself! THANK YOU! :D |
Wow! Those are some fabulous quilts! Is the black and white one pieced?
|
Those are so wonderful! I love the mini's and the 4 sisters and the black and white and brown and well, just all of them! I'm so glad you got to go and had a great time!!!
|
Thanks so much for sharing! You took a great variety of styles, and they are stunning, but the one that pulled at my heartstrings was the four sisters. It could have been my grandmother and 3 of her sisters sitting on Aunt Em's porch in Pennsyvania when we would go visit each summer.
|
I felt the 4 sisters could have been my grandma and her sisters - or her friends sitting on a porch in SD.
|
Absolute eye candy! I thought the sister on the far right looked just like my grandmother!
|
I'm going to the show tomorrow, I can't wait to see these up close. Thanks for the preview

Thank you for sharing your quilt show adventure with us!!!
That black and white quilt is awesome!!! I have gone back to that fabric many times online and it IS going into my stash next time!! Mother Earth also caught my soul!!! The 4 sisters was another stunning beauty!! |
WOW!! What wonderful eye candy!!!
I love the second mini---what a lot of patience that woman has!! The 4 sisters is amazing. Thank you so much for taking the time to share with us. |
Ok so tell me. I know these quilt shows are supposed to inspire us, but this time I came away rather intimidated I guess is the feeling. I know I will never do anywhere near as well as most of these. I have half a feeling of "why try" Other then the feeling that I do what I love for me I mean. It is like this show was for professionals and us "normal quilters" may as well stay home. How do you feel about it?
|
Oh my gosh, What gorgeous quilts.... Thanks for sharing
|
OH MY GOSH!
Those are absolutely awesome! I want to do that when I grow up! Simply amazing!!! |
There's nothing like a good quilt show to inspire and humble you! Gorgeous quilts--thanks for posting!

kwhite, to answer your question... we don't have to be the best to make great quilts. I've loved many of the quilts I've seen on this board and in shops, and they wouldn't qualify to be in that show. They're still really nice quilts.
The artistry and creativity at that show was immense, but there's much more to quilting than just artistry (though of course we all want nice-looking quilts). --- quilts were originally functional, to keep you warm. Even the plainest quilts still do that --- we express ourselves in the quilts we make, we stitch the love and caring right in when we make a gift, and sometimes we stitch in hurt and tears (perhaps because we're quilting in memory of someone now gone) --- we can customize a quilt exactly the way someone wants it --- our personalities and preferences come through in our choices of designs, fabrics and stitches when we make our quilts, and this makes our own creations unique and worthwhile And to some degree we are all artistic. You don't decide not to cook just because you're not a Cordon Bleu chef. You have to cook if you want to eat, and you take pride in your personal specialties and the compliments they get, even if your recipes wouldn't get the blue ribbon in a contest. Same with quilts. I can't see myself ever mastering the thread painting technique that so blew me away at the show. I hope to make quilts as nice as the Baltimore Album one or the An Alphabet one someday. So I view the show quilts as what they are, top of the line, and just appreciate them. |
Wow!! Such intricate work, I'll bet you had a blast!! The four women quilt is amazing as well. Thank you for sharing, I was looking forward to it!

I was quite proud of myself for not taking any of the chocolates lying around in bowls in the hotel. Personally, I think you should post all about your visit to Chocolate World, too. Did you get any pictures? |
Wow, that four sisters quilt is absolutely my favorite. I have some old black and white pics of my family that I would love to do that, I'll have to start checking out how. So inspirational. Thanks so much for posting the pics.

Thanks for taking us along on your Hershey trip. I love the 4 old ladies. This so reminds me of grams and her lady friends.
Although most of us here will never reach or attain this type of quilting, the quilts we make, people will willingly cuddle up with and go to sleep, read a book and drink a cup of tea with the quilt enveloping their all, comfort a sick one, and kids will use to make tent houses with. I for one would prefer my quilts be used until they fall apart. These quilts are mostly for show and art form, kwhite so do not be dismayed. Do not compare your apples to someone elses oranges. Remember, every stately tree, every beautiful sunflower, every tomato started out as a seed. We still enjoyed it's shade, it's beauty, and loved every bite of the tomato. :D :D :D Thanks again for the trip. |
wow wow wow nice
love the older ladies... very good |
