mgshaw 05-21-2008 01:50 PM

The log cabin has the floral border fabric on back and the ohio star is just plain white, nothing fancy hiding back there!

Barb M 05-21-2008 01:52 PM

I remember when you posted a picture of that red/white/blue one and I just love it. I love the matching shams too.

I want to learn how to make them.

How do you do it? Do you have a pattern for shams?

live2teach 05-21-2008 03:43 PM

No Cordelia, I dont have a pattern. I just measure my pillows then use however many blocks to fill up the size, usually have to add some filler pieces on the sides or on top and bottom. for the top piece I make a sandwich just like a real quilt and quilt it before adding the back. the back is 2 pieces overlapped, each piece about 2/3 the length of the pillow. Here are some pics, maybe that will help me make a little more sense.

sewmuch 05-21-2008 05:11 PM

Your quilts are both beautiful and great idea on the shams, I am going to try that.

Katrine 05-21-2008 11:02 PM

Beautiful quilts and shams - thank you for the tips on constructing them - much simpler than patterns I have.

Renae McClain-White 05-22-2008 12:44 PM

Hello! This is gorgeous! I have been trying to find the pattern; what is the name of it? Starry log cabin??

Thanks! :D

Missi 05-22-2008 01:00 PM

pretty pretty pretty !!!!!!

I have pieces of quilts and blocks saved to make the shams just haven't gotten around to it. Do you have them long arm quilted the same as the quilt?

Cordelia 05-22-2008 02:01 PM

Oh, yes. I see. That's how I make my pillows. But, I've never quilted my pillows ...

It never occurred to me to quilt my pillows but some people do.

I can do that. I can make those shams too.

They're bootiful!

mgshaw 05-22-2008 03:16 PM

Yes Cordelia, You can. You go girl!!

Missi, I do all my quilting by hand.

Renae, yes that is Starry Log Cabin

QuiltinLee 05-28-2008 09:28 AM

Gorgeous!! Both the quilts and the pillow shams are absolutely lovely! :D

I love your quilt and pillow shams. They're beautiful! :)

I'm currently working on making a quilt for a friend and need to make pillow shams to go with. The quilt top is a nine patch set on point using ten different fabric prints along with a solid off white that has a small flower print to it. This is for a queen size bed.

I want to do the pillow shams to match and was wondering how to go about doing this using all ten fabrics and the off white fabric as mentioned above. What size would you make the pillow sham and just how big would my blocks need to be knowing they're going to be set on point. I'm not good at the math part of it. Also looks like your shams are quilted. Looking for some help in the area.

Thanks so much in advance. :)

dixiebelle162002 05-18-2011 08:59 AM

beautiful.....The quilt seems so much more complete.

Justquilting 05-18-2011 09:11 AM

My shams finished about 20 x 26.5 for regular size bed pillows. If you look at the Ohio Star one, it is set on point. I use the same size blocks as in the quilt, just added filler strips along the sides and top and bottom. But those blocks only finished at 7 1/2 inches. So it would depend on the size of your blocks whether you would need stips all the way around. The log cabin only needed strips on the sides.
With your 9 patch, if you did 2 blocks on each sham, you would be able to use all of your colors.
Did you look a little further down the post at my brief tutorial? That might help you.
Let me know if you need more help!!!
