I just finished piecing 20 pinwheels for my neighbor's baby blanket. I made it from a Fandango charm pack (40 charms) paired with 40 squares of an ivory. Thoughts on whether I should leave them touching or put in a skinny inside border?

SueDor 02-27-2011 03:29 PM

Very nice!

glenda5253 02-27-2011 03:32 PM

I think you will get more of a pinwheel effect if you use sashing between the blocks. It will be pretty either way.

Vicki W 02-27-2011 03:34 PM

Nice and fresh looking. Maybe a small border on the edge.

cjomomma 02-27-2011 03:35 PM

To be honest the only reason I use sashing with a pinwheel is to avoid having to line up all those seams. Just a personal preference for me. Now having said that! I think yours looks great just like it is. Very beautiful.

I agree with using sashing between the blocks. I love the line of fabric you used. Very pretty!! :)

I'm a border kind of gal....I vote border or borders...:0)

Another vote for a border instead of sashing. Pretty quilt.

ann clare 02-27-2011 03:56 PM

Beautiful. Sashing would make it pop.

belmer 02-27-2011 03:57 PM

I agree, would look great with sashing in between the pinwheels, Your colors are very pretty together and you did a great job putting those pinwheels together.

Tussymussy 02-27-2011 03:58 PM

I vote for sashing and a border!

Rose L 02-27-2011 03:58 PM

I like it as is, then you can see the secondary block pattern.

Juliebelle 02-27-2011 03:59 PM

I like it just the way it is good job

Mariposa 02-27-2011 04:00 PM

It looks great as is, but you decide! :)

Lori S 02-27-2011 04:02 PM

This is going to be very very pretty when its done , can't wait to see it.

sueisallaboutquilts 02-27-2011 04:05 PM

I looove Fandango!! Bought some too.
Sorry I can't answer your question- I love it as is.

SuziC 02-27-2011 04:24 PM

I love the pinwheels! Either way it will still look good. I think it's a personal preference.

clem55 02-27-2011 04:29 PM

very pretty!!

lighthouse 02-27-2011 04:32 PM

I like the pinwheel top the way you have it, but I am a sashing person also. I agree with the fact that by placing sashing in-between the pinwheels, you do not have to line up your seams. Please post this quilt when your finished :-) :-)

Coley Banicki 02-27-2011 05:30 PM

wow thats awesome

dreamer2009 02-27-2011 05:45 PM

Sashing would make it pop.

katyquilter 02-27-2011 05:52 PM

I think it's awesome without sashing. A nice border would be nice though. Great work. I'm proud of you!!

irishrose 02-27-2011 06:25 PM

For a baby, I love it the way it is. I agree that sashing would give up the secondary pattern of the hourglasses. Fandango doesn't need anything to make it pop. I loved the quilt I did for a daughter with it.

Yours is very pretty. I would use a narrow coral border followed by a mid width cream to finish it. You need the coral or aqua to contain all the color. You can find one of the prints online if you want your last border to match. I had the big light coral one and the largest brown, but others were available.

I'm making pinwheels too and I like where you can see the inner box that having them touching creates. So I vote for No border. (that's what I'm doing with mine).

Jingle 02-27-2011 07:02 PM

Pretty. I would not use sashing, I would put at least one border around it, to give it a finished look. Just me.

Leave it like it is and add narrow inner border and a wider outer border.

cathylynn 02-27-2011 11:02 PM

one more vote for sashing. love your color selections. good job.

Yooper32 02-28-2011 04:05 AM

Definitely sashing. MHO

Mary O 02-28-2011 04:08 AM

Have you tried putting them on point? That would frame your beautiful blocks.

4girlsmimi 02-28-2011 04:34 AM

Very pretty quilt! Love your fabrics!

diannemc 02-28-2011 04:46 AM

Ditto and then your border.

GrammaBabs 02-28-2011 04:50 AM

this is so nice..... sometimes for me it's "about getting to start the next quilt"... :)
i think it depends on how well you know this neighbor... the little one will love it and hug it with or without the border and in truth,,, it's a great quilt either way... ask yourself... Am i finished yet?... you'll know!!!! :)
Very nice wor and great fabric..

Fabaddict 02-28-2011 05:39 AM

It is gorgeous as is, but I agree with cjomomma - the only reason I use sashing on something like that is to avoid lining up seams.

irma tapia 02-28-2011 06:31 AM

I would add a border, it would really set ot off.....nice job!

Chay 02-28-2011 06:32 AM

I vote for sashing between the blocks to really maximize the pinwheel design and also an outer border to frame the whole thing. Love the fabric, nice job! Post a pic of the finished quilt please.

Joan Gaddis 02-28-2011 06:50 AM

pretty

kathidahl 02-28-2011 07:14 AM

Your pinwheel centers are great...I had to applique a little square on the center of the pinwheels the first time I tried this. Made them really look like pinwheels, but I knew why! Got lemons...make lemonade! Oh yes, sashing or not? your choice.

polly13 02-28-2011 07:24 AM

Sashing to emphasize the pinwheels.
