Please help us decide on a border

My Mom (vivnme) just finished this quilt and needs help deciding on the border. The quilt is a gift for her 26 year old neice.

She needs about 20 inches of border and she doesn't have the color that is around each block. She has a rope border shown in one of the photos below, it would be made with all the fabrics leftover from the quilt. I have shown the border with the thin strips that I like but I think she would prefer one with the thicker strips. We don't know what colors or sizes to use.

What should she do?

What a stunning quilt....I would do s dark border on it

I would first put a thin dark strip, then the wider strips with the braid in between. Beautiful quilt by the way. I love it!

I wouldn't begin to give advice, but I have to say what a stunning quilt it is. Gorgeous, gorgeous fabrics, and glorious stars!!

it needs the darker stuff on the outer edge to sort of stop the eye from falling into the light stuff and getting stuck....vvery lovely quilt already!

I agree. I like the dark ones best.

IMHO: I would first make the braid - then add one of the creams to both sides of it. Then I would audition the remaining pieces to see what to use as the "first" go round (which goes on prior to the cream/braid/cream section). I would also make the binding with the same piece that went on the "first" go round. (In the meantime - I would scrounge around to find something close to the color of the sashings - because that's what it's really asking for.) But that's just my humble opinion... HAGD!

It sure is a beauty, I'd go with the darker borders.

What a gorgeous quilt!!! I agree the outside border should be dark.

she already posted the same question here http://www.quiltingboard.com/main-f1...t-t192016.html

Oops, I'm so sorry...

I vote for a dark edge.

I'd still go for the 3rd on the left in the original thread!

Gorgeous quilt! A braid of all colors in the quilt would be striking, could still use a strip of dark or white on the outer border to trim. Those stars just jump off the quilt at you!

I think I'd do a dark border.

I like the last picture where you extend the color so that the blocks float in the center of the quilt. Then I would bind with the same color as the sashing if you have it or one of the draker colors to finish off the edge. Good luck and best stitches

Such a beautiful quilt............... I would put a thin dark border and then the braid using all the colors encased in the cream color.

It's gorgeous!! I like the 2 blues you have for the border. A thin one in the lighter blue and a little thicker in the darker blue. It will bring out more of the blue in the quilt in my opinion.

Yes, I think that's how I would do it, too. That quilt is just gorgeous & I can't wait to see it all done... wow!
