Here's a picture of a quilt my late Mother made from polyester fabric. She made a scrappy quilt with polyester squares of all colors and backed the quilt with flannel fabric. She didn't use any batting as the quilt is heavy enough without it.
She hand quilted it by quilting around each square and use polyester to bind the quilt. It is really warm, too. She used any type fabric she had to make quilts. Almost all her quilts were made from cotton or polyester fabric scraps. |
I know I had one of these wayyyyyyyy back when..Years ago we made quilts with cotton like pockets filled with clean old pantyhose, they too were heavy!!

I love that! It reminds me of one my Grandma made! My mother still has it and uses it.

Lovely.

I have one almost identical that I made umpteen years ago. It is so heavy.

In the 70s, a group of us made these for a nursing home. The nursing home loved them because they were indestructible in the laundry. I can't remember what we used for backing. Something woven and soft like a brushed twill, I think. Not flannel, I know.
Your mother's quilt is still bright - very cheerful. |
i was fortunate to rescue one.. It has become one of our favorites.. http://www.quiltingboard.com/t-68858-1.htm
