I'm not sure how copyright works here....so I want to get this out of the way first. I'm pretty sure that Stairway To Heaven is a public domain pattern as it's been around forever. I used a simple cross hatch, but it only went one direction. I did use Borders Made Easy. It's a cheater paper you put on borders so you can quilt cool lines on it. I loved it and if I can use it, anybody can. It did make my borders easy. I hope that gives all the credit due. Now, for the pics.

Here is the top:

And the backing:

The Top with the back:

Close up of the top corner. You can see the quilt lines and the border paper:

Border Paper so you can see the design:

All that's left is the delivery pictures, we'll have to wait until he gets here for that!!

The fabrics you have chosen are just perfect, and I wish we had some Army fabric here in England like that!

Please give my love, a hug and total respect to your Hero Son from the Mum of a British Soldier Serving in Afghanistan. xxx

This is quite a popular pattern in our family. We received one from a friend when my MIL passed away 2 years ago. Each of my boys' first toddler blankets was a Stairway to Heaven done in triangles instead of squares. Then my hubby has one from the same gal who made the boys' and his is decades old. I didn't even know there was a cat one until I started looking for the pattern. I got a tip from a friend about bargello style quilts and I just measured cut and made it because I knew what my finished product is. I may be wrong, but I believe the regular Stairway to Heaven is public domain. The only one with a copyright I've ever seen is the cat one.

I'm really glad you all liked it! I don't think Steven knew what to think of it at first, I think it had to grow on him. But he ended up sleeping under it and guarding it from his brothers before he took it with him back to TX. He's only been back since September and already they are sending him somewhere again. I found a new pattern for his quilt when he gets home from whereever he's going. I have a tiny picture of him holding it. When I find my memory card, I'll post it.
