I made a quilted recipe book and a tablerunner for a friend for Christmas.. She is going to be here for the holidays and I needed to come up with a couple of quick gifts...

You are so clever! What a lucky friend.
How did you cover the recipe book. Pockets for the cover? Glue stick? Curious minds want to know. [I have daughters I'm always trying to come up with unique gifts for. ] Thanx!

It is a composition book I purchased at Dollar General.. I measured it and cut out the cover fabric with a 2 inch allowance.. I then cut out the batting the same size as the composition book.. I did the block and appliquéd it to the cover material and batting... I used a glued stick to glue it all to the composition notebook with a small bead of hot glue on the outer edges of the book.. On the inside I measured a 9x6 in finished block and hot glued it down with a small bead.. I wanted the inside of the book is also finished...

I picked up some 1.5 x .5 inch tabs.. I will include 5 of them in an envelope inside the book so she can decide for herself how to divide it and how many pages for her sections..

Thank you for sharing your methodology. Now all I need is a little time. That is really a neat book and everyone can always use a new journal/recipe book.

Very nice!! I bet your friend will simply love them! Great way to use the composition book! I covered one in white satin, made the front like a soft sculp photo frame for a friend's wedding guest book (We were on a strict budget). I love your idea of making a quilted recipe book!! Maybe I should make one for my friend and see if it brings back any wedding day memories :D

These are great ideas you are giving us. The first one start those christmas gifts early! LOL!

I really love the idea of a quilted recipe book. Maybe you could start er off with a couple of yours in there?? Or maybe some from the recipe section of this board.

The matching table runner is very nice too.

My sis, years ago, gave me a little brag book for my pictures simular to this. I still have it.
