I took a break from my commision quilt to work on a few little things....
SO I finished a norman rockwell wall hanging..I still need to put on binding but I quilted it today.
I also quilted a little quilt using "my little pony" and "strawberry shortcake" material....I usually don't use this kind of material but i had these from when my youngest was a toddler and we made her baby blankets..these are the scraps of what is left.

I also used leftover scraps from a snowman flannel quilt I made a few months ago and made this raggedy flannel quilt. When I quilt it and then wash it all the edges of those squares will get frayed and look worn and comfy!..thinking I shoud use wool batting.

here is the little pink quilt

Charismah, I really like the flannel quilt & the pattern. Those are appealing to the eye. Have you seen the Gee's Bend quilts by the Southern Alabama African American quilters that are abstracts? I think it was back in 1950s that a priest saw the quilts on the clotheslines around the town where he was walking through & somehow got them noticed by a Northern Museum, if I have my story straight. Your flannel quilt looks similar.

I love your aesthetic- So fresh and contemporary. All the quilts are just terrific. Applause, applause!!

( I am also a Gees Bend fan - I've managed to go to 2 different showings of their work, since I heard about the group.)

The Strawberry Shortcake and My Little Pony quilt took me down memory lane. I saw fabrics I used for my daughter's playclothes!

You do a wonderful job on your quilts. Thanks for sharing!

Astramorgaine 02-27-2010 05:44 AM

I absolutely loved strawberry shortcake and my little pony when I was little :) You are so creative, I'm a tad green with envy! It'll pass lol but seriously, great work!

Mamagus 02-27-2010 06:06 AM

Beautiful work! Did the alphabet material come with the Norman Rockwell panel or did you buy it separately?

barnbum 02-27-2010 06:12 AM

I'd love to see the ragged one after it's washed! You are a terrific quilter--love that design.

gvmitchell 02-27-2010 06:15 AM

Great job! You are very talented!

jetnica 02-27-2010 06:50 AM

These are great --- and I'm so jealous that this was you "taking a break" -- I need to get someone to do all of my school paperwork so I can take breaks like yours more often!!!

Justquilting 02-27-2010 06:53 AM

Very nice!!

The norman Rockwell is a panel...so I didn't add anything to it....you can't really see in the picture but in all of those separate borders I quilted something different...in the picture itself I only outlined the boy, girl, dog , and hearts on the tree.
I love the alphabet part.

Esqmommy 02-27-2010 08:17 AM

Again, the prolific quilting queen strikes! Great work my dear!

RedGarnet222 02-27-2010 08:50 AM

How nice all of them are. I couldn't pick just one that I like the best. They are all so nice. I enjoyed seeing the close up of your quilting.

Sometimes you just have to take a break. Thanks for the closeup of the quilting on the pink quilt. I'm about to start a baby quilt and might try this.

Rhonda 02-27-2010 11:27 AM

Love them all but I especially love the ABCs in the Norman Rockwell one. Very cute! BTW I went to a one room school my first two years of school. so it holds a special place in my heart I guess!

All I can say is Wow, how do you do all this in a day? Hurry and wash the raggedy flannel and post a picture. Great job, all very pretty.

Toto's Mom 02-27-2010 10:22 PM

All very pretty. You do a wonderful job on all of yours.

Nice Job! You might get a kick out of seeing the Gee's Bend kit in Keepsake Quilting's cataolg and on-line site. I really had to look at it a long time to feel any appreciation for it but I guess it growns on you?

Hi, So I am not the only one with strawberry short cake fab... is this some of the new reprint or the origional fab? I have the 1970's or whenever it was....
Fun to see it... mine is in a box somewhere in my sewing room.

sewsue 02-28-2010 12:46 AM

Just love your quilts and the pink one is so girly.

littlehud 02-28-2010 08:09 PM

Those are beautiful. I love the idea of the edges getting frayed. It will make that quilt even more cuddly and inviting.

I love them all! The Norman Rockwell is beautiful with the alphabet detail and I LOVE your FMQ on the pink one - so sweet and perfectly in keeping with the girly fabrics! I too want to see the raggedy edges when you wash the first one!

mjsylvstr 03-03-2010 04:00 PM

how long a break did you take.......these are great....love all of them.

the first ones remind me of Gee Bends quilts...

You sure did get a lot accomplished.
