Quirky Quilt

4 Attachment(s)
Pattern: cheaper by the dozen

Fabric: set of fat quarters from Wal-mart - in their sale bin $2 for 6. Got two sets so there's more duplication in this than the pattern called for.

Border: from Joann's. I saw a magazine from the 90's that used a big floral print for appliques. I wanted to try that. I might have "liked" it better without that addition, but ... it's different and hopefully kind of fun.

Quilting: I used daisies and loop-de-loops. This is the second quilt in a row that I've quilted without breaking a needle or breaking a thread. (oops! Did I way that out loud? OH NO!) :)

Backing: from Connecting Threads - when they had their basics for $2.48/yd.

Batting: pieced from leftovers

So ... entire thing was less than $20.

Where I had appliqued the flowers and sewn the rick rack I had some waves in the quilt top. I starched the daylights out of it before I sandwiched it then spray basted it extra around the applique. When I started quilting it I sewed around each large block to stabilize it then quilted the blocks around the applique first. Came out without any puckers or weird things. Hurray!

Really cute love the buttons on the flowers. Thanks for your ideas with the ric rac also. Sue

Confession: the second yellow ric rac isn't really supposed to be there - I sewed it in the wrong place and absolutely hate to rip. So Design Decision - two rows of yellow ric rac. :)

Ever since I did a pattern called Sidelights I've been attracted by assymetric designs - that's why the black doesn't go all the way around. Well, that and I'm really cheap and that saved more ric rac for another quilt. :P
