Rainy Day and Wool

It is cold and rainy in Montana. Think I will work on a little wool applique project.
Do you like working with wool?

Those look like loosely woven wools - they look like they might have a tendency to fray/ravel.

Some wools are a joy to work with - some are not.

I have never done wool appliqué but I like the look. Do you fuse it in place and then hand or machine buttonhole stitch the edge?

That is not the right kinda wool to use for applique. These will fray on the edges.

I love this pile of wool, but tell me what kind of wool do you need. I once tried a bit if wool appliqué and mine frayed, I really would like to know what to buy. I have heard of people buying old wool suiting too

I actually don't fuse my wool projects. I use freezer paper to create the applique's and then yes I had stitch the pieces down. I use many fun stitches. I hope you give it a try! It is really fun!

Dear Sewfine,
The wool shown in my photo is over-dyed Dorr wool.
It has a very tight weave and it does not fray.
I use it for all my wool projects.

I don't buy or use wool. I have lots and lots of 100% cotton.
Enjoy the cool weather, maybe rain too if you need it. Today starts our hot and humid weather. I'm not a fan of it. I will have to grin and bear it.

That pile of wool is absolutely gorgeous! I'm not a traditionalist, and it looks so enticing to work with. Pleeeze post photos when you finish the first one!

This is what that little pile of wool will turn into.
I love to mix and match wool and cottons.
This one I will give to my sister for her birthday.
Shhhhhhhhhhh...don't tell her:)
