Recent Projects

I'm brand new on the board, so I thought I'd show you some of my recent work since we have had special stuff at guild and aren't having Show and Tell for three months...

This is my most recent finish, a scrap quilt for one of the ladies at church who just moved into The Baptist Home for the Aged in Ironton, MO. I called it "Butterfly Garden" since the back is Laurel Burch Botterflies.

I made it from the scraps of a baby quilt that I called "Bloom", which I made in April for a shower for another church lady. Baby Norah's mom loved it, and I had some serious separation anxiety. I wish I had more of the focus fabric, but it was a stash fabric I bought back before I was a quilter, intending to sew a home ec project out of it.

The very first quilt that I made I never photographed, because I never finished the binding. I'll have to do that one of these days. The baby it was intended for passed away and I put the quilt away somewhere. The first one I actually finished was "Irish Stars" which I made for a baby gift for a friend.https://sphotos.xx.fbcdn.net/hphotos..._7849756_n.jpg

In between i've made... five? quilts for friends babies out Moda Sock Monkey fabric, as they all seemed to have the same nursery theme. This one was made from my favorite go to baby pattern, Yellow Brick Road.

My favorite is the stars, too (did you make that pattern up or is it out there somewhere?), tho I love all of them... I really do! You can't go wrong with Laurel Burch butterflies (which I've been lusting over mightily as of late) or good old "Yellow Brick Road" (what did we do before that pattern we designed?!?). They're all beautiful!

Oh, & howdy from the wilds of western WI... welcome to this awesome board!

Welcome from central Iowa. I too was taken by the stars. I have an Irish Chain on my to do list. I love the idea of combining it with stars. I love this board and all the info from it.

Great work!!!!

quiltingdragon 06-30-2012 02:05 PM

I made the star quilt up out of two basic blocks and an applique pattern. I strip pieced the segments for the nine patches out of 2 1/2 inch strips, put them together in to 6 1/2 in blocks and then cut 6 1/2 squares of the blue. Using the same fabric for the big blocks and the secondary color of the nine patch is what makes the irish chain. pattern. The star applique was one of the simple shapes for applique offered by Marcia Hoehn over at www.quilterscache.com!
