Dragonfly Nana 08-02-2012 04:12 AM

Thanks all. jillnjo your center is lovely. Looks like we were all in a similar mind set for colors

My center is 20" finished size

Come on Judith1005 show us your center - I got some planning to do cause I get yours first!

jillnjo 08-02-2012 05:08 AM

I thought that we all had similar color choices, too! My center is 20" or a little more square. Where are you, YaYa, I'm going to be starting on your center. Or is it already in the mail? I know it will be beautiful!

Helen S 08-02-2012 09:06 AM

I absolutely LOVE the colors here and can't wait to see this square evolve into a thing of beauty. Sounds like you'll all be well-grounded in friendship by the time it's done, not to mention all the fun along the way!

Here's my center block. I'll try to post a better picture later as this one doesn't show the true colors--the white is true white!

I haven't mailed it yet, but will in a couple of days when I can get to the post office in the nearby town--we are camping by the lakeside at Lake Almanor in the mountains near Mt Lassen for the next week!

Dragonfly Nana 08-02-2012 11:08 AM

Karen, even with the colors being off your center is gorgeous!
Ooohh how the ideas are spinning now. It will really be a treat to see how they change by the time the get to each of us.

jillnjo 08-02-2012 12:00 PM

Beautiful!! I love the deep blue fabric and how the red is set off so well! Have a great time camping! I hope you are having great weather-like sunny days and cool nights.

Judith1005 08-02-2012 12:35 PM

Hi everybody, I needed to tweak my block today. Then of course, It rained and I lost the sunlight. I will be posting it tomorrow for you. Can we mail early? Or do we need to wait for the deadline. Either way, I will be ready to mail by next week. I work on the weekends. You ladies have out done yourselves. I can't wait till it's my turn to work on yours.:)

sewhappy30 08-02-2012 01:25 PM

yayaquilts--Beautiful center. I can only image what will be added to it by the time it gets to me. Can't wait.
Judith1005--Can't wait to see yours, you and tam...moo are making us sweat. lol

So far all 4 that has posted has lots of blue in them. What a coincidence. Great minds think alike. LOL Can't wait to see the other 2.

As for mailing - as long as the picture has been posted here I say go for it.

lollygagging 08-02-2012 01:31 PM

You've peaked my curiosity! Can't wait to see the finished projects! Thanks for the teaser.

Thanks for the compliments!!

I love everyone's centers--they are so beautiful!!

Weather has been nice-sunny and warm daytime and cool first night--but we have a lot of smoke and ash in the air because of a big fire not too close, but close enough so the smell and ash is no fun-plus the smoke is ruining the normally beautiful blue and the view of Mt Lassen is covered by smoke!!

Well, this is a first for me. I've never done a RR. These are great so far. I too hope we will see the ongoing progress of these quilts.

Been looking at your lovely center!! Tell us about how you made it-is it PP? I bet you took an idea and enlarged it! How is the circle set in the square? I'm curious!

Patti; This is a first for me, too! The "unknown" is so exciting to me. I wonder about my ability to choose the right thing for a round, it's going to be a challenge. I have a couple books that teach about borders and I keep looking at quilts that are made with centers and several borders!

debcavan 08-03-2012 04:45 AM

This has just been the most fun to view this thread. The centers are so wonderful. The colors so pretty and such great designs used.

JudyG 08-03-2012 07:05 AM

I Love seeing all your centers. You will have so much fun working on each other's quilts and will learn a ton. Can't wait to see the progress.

aeble 08-03-2012 09:06 AM

The centers are lovely. Looking forward to see these quilts progress.

WMUTeach 08-03-2012 09:16 AM

I agree, this will be fun to watch as you all progress. I have often wanted to do such a round robin but I have been to shy because I fear my skills will not be up to par with others. I know my confidence problem.

dd55 08-03-2012 09:26 AM

love all your centers. looking forward to seeing the progress.

Dragonfly Nana 08-03-2012 10:23 AM

For those of you who have asked about my center: It is made by sewing two strips together and then cutting "wedges" with a 12 degree ruler placed on an angle across the strip set. You sew the wedges together like you would a Dresden Plate. Then you applique on a center. Adding the corner pieces was a bit tricky for me as I hate to sew curves - but I got it done.
Check out Phillips Fiber Arts - it is a free pattern from them. http://phillipsfiberart.danemcoweb.c...gree-freebies/

My first time too! I understand what you mean about wondering about my abilities and looking around at other quilts for ideas. I don't want to mess up anyone's hard work.

wildyard 08-03-2012 11:08 AM

For those of us who are new to the concept, can you explain exactly what a Round Robin is and how it works?

Dragonfly Nana 08-03-2012 11:47 AM

Hi Linda - Sure it goes like this: Say you have 6 players, identified as A, B, C, D, E, and F.
Each player makes a "center" and mails it to the next player in line: A mails to B, B mails to C, etc.
B them adds a border or "round" to what was received from A
B then mails the whole thing to C
C adds a round and mails it to D
And so on through the list to F, each player adding a round to the whole that was received.
F then mails it for the last time back to its owner A as a completed quilt top.

The size for each "round" is determined before the robin begins. So for the first round each player might add a 3" round to what they receive. The second round each player would add the next stated size - say a 5" round.

The end size of each quilt is determined by the creator based on the size of the center initially sent

Hope that helps.

Lilrain 08-03-2012 12:19 PM

I will be following thios for sure. these centers are great

Ok Robinettes, this is the center I picked. It's called 1930's square from QuiltersCache.com. It's still a bit overcast here for pictures. But, hopefully this will do the job. It's 14 1/2" square.
