Our little town of 400 has an annual event called Old Settlers every year and it celebrates our history as a pioneer town founded in the mid 1800s.

We have a quilt show every year in the church that sits beside the park in the middle of town.

So you will see quilts laid over the pews.

This year was the first time I got to show all 8 of my doll quilts at the Quilt Show and show off all the pretties I got from my friends!!!

What a beautiful way to display the quilts, I love to see churches used like this as community centres. And am honoured to have a piece of mine included. :-D

Awesome! I see that the local guild was making tree skirts this year! I love that design and wish I had it!

The quilts are all lovely! I'm looking forward to our local quilt show which I thought was this fall but it looks like it isn't. maybe they are on the every other year plan?

Our quilt shows used to be alot bigger. This one only took up about half of the pews with only about 5 pieces hung on the wall. A lot of quilts are not brought in due to people passing away and or going into nursing homes and the quilts are either passed on or the family members are not particularly quilt lovers.
the lady who had always organized the show is now in a nursing home herself and unable to do the show anymore. The lady who now does the organizing is not particularly liked and a lot of people don't bring their stuff because they don't want to deal with her. Which is sad.

I know Marsha(first organizer) worked hard to bring in lots of quilts and there would be so many that it was hard to find room to display them. The church has 4 rooms with dividers at the back of the vestibule(where the pews are) and they would be full to overflowing as well as all the walls would be covered. A few years back they had to drape quilts on the organ and the pulpit as well as the railings in front of the pulpit.

I just hope some of these quilters will come back next year and bring their quilts in again.

Marg.

I can check to see who owns the jacket. I would guess it is possibly a Fons and Porter Pattern. I know I have seen something similar on their show.

Thanks for sharing and letting us attend your town quilt show. Really lots of quilts for such a small town. I live in a small town and wouldn't trade for any place else.

Sewlmatesister 09-04-2010 05:29 AM

I have no idea but I can ask. I didn't look to see who they belonged to. But the lady who organized the show will know.

ppquilter 09-04-2010 07:27 AM

Thank you so much for the online quilt show since otherwise so many of us wouldn't have seen it! We traveled through Iowa a few years back and came across an old church that was a quilt shop, the bolts of fabric were lined up down the pews, thought it was a great idea! Great job to all the quilters there!

Mousie 09-04-2010 01:17 PM

Where do you live? Are you familiar with Old Settlers? It is always the last weekend in August. Sometimes it is the same weekend as Old Threshers but this year it was the week before.

zz-pd 09-05-2010 09:47 PM

They are all beautiful, You did a stunning job on all. God bless.
