We went to this show today. I was not expecting antique quilts, but that's what was there! They were amazing! Some dated back to the 1830's!!! I couldn't take pictures of the ones I wanted because they have copyright issues, but they're so amazing.

Here's pictures of the ones I was able to take. Bear with me, there's a lot!

I think my favorites are the alphabet one and the swirly one. I was told that the quilting pattern you see in a lot of these quilts is typical southern style. It goes in half swirls...i don't know if you can see it, but I thought I'd share.

Also the quilts with dates on them, are the actual dates they were made. One from 1909 and one from 1905...awesome.

Most of these quilts are in some state of degeneration, as you can see in some of the quilts, but I think theyre still beautiful! It just makes my jaw drop on the floor with the patience and beauty of some of these quilts!

WOW!! Those are fantastic. I can only imagine what the rest were like. I can't believe that one was dated 1903. Thanks so much for posting the pictures-I felt like I was there.

No I didn't make these. They're from the early 1900's. I wish I'd made them!

I think my favorite is the purple/yellow as well!

You asked us to "bear with" you. No bearign needed - this was a treat! I'm another one who likes the purple and yellow one best, though the hubby pic was another favorite - I like people pictures as well as quilt pics.

i love the redwork quilts the best. they have a special look indicative of a certain era in quiltmaking. i'm not sure when they were at their height in popularity, though. btw, you take great quilt pics. and portraits, too.

These are so pretty! Thanks for taking the time to post for us.

I am always surprised by how modern some of the old quilts look- I am thinking in particular of the circle one. I love quilts that have a timeless look to them like that.

motomom 09-13-2009 08:35 AM

Those quilts are so gorgeous and special. Thanks so much for posting the pics.

Just curious about the name of the quilt exibit. Is there any information you can give me about him?
