Sasha's quilt for LovequiltsUK

I have finally finished this quilt, it has been a nightmare. The charity supplied 4oz Upholstery wadding of really inferior quality so when you tried to stitch it the wadding clumped, tore, moved, you name it what you don't want a wadding to do this did it. After hours upon hours of froggy stitching and puzzling over the problem, I did the margin stitch around the block and did 100s, literally, of machine "ties", I have told the charity that I can't do anymore for them it is too stressful, besides not doing my new machine any good. The wadding kept of getting stuck the workings and I broke about 8 needles as the clumps pushed them out of alignment, and that was with the dual feed!

Oh and BTW they also supplied a really cheap and nasty duvet cover, really heavily dressed which stained my machine, it will come off but doesn't bode well for the quilt. It was so cheap an nasty that when I was snipping threads if already had one bearding patch, shame as so much work was put into the blocks.

Oh dear, it does sound like a nightmare to quilt. You did a great job even though the materials were sub-standard.

Those blocks are adorable and the quilt came out lovely. Sooooo sorry that you stressed over this quilt, I'm not sure I would have finished it.

Wondering if the group gets donated supplies and just sends them along without thought or realizing how nasty the materials are to work with?

Yes they do get donated also buy a lot, they put together the fabrics by theme rather than worry about the quality.

The quilt is adorable, but I wonder if uphostery batting is washable? I would not think so...

I don't think it is going to wash very well at all, such a shame as the ladies who did the blocks put so much love and work into them :(

When volunteering to make charity quilts, you just have to do the best you can with what you've got. At least at our church Outreach group, we have enough donated things to choose from that we can find something that works.

One picture is worth a thousand thank you's :)

And a lovely thank you from her Mother made by day,

"Thank you, Look what arrived today!!! It's amazing! It made me cry a little bit and it's soooo much better in reality than any of the photos. Huge thank you to all the stitchers and Joan for quilting. xxx"
