Scrappy Charity Quilts for NJ and mini tut

3 Attachment(s)
These 2 quilts were done for a friend and I recently shipped them to the Sandy victims of NJ. I did not make any of the blocks. I simply trimmed them to size and divided the blocks up for the 2 quilts and finished them off with simple MQ. Most of these blocks were made by quilters in CA and NM and some were signed with their first name and city/state they were from. It was a Project Linus project. They were 74x85.

This D4P pattern is a little different from some others I've seen so I'll include it here. Some friends of mine liked the quilt and wanted the directions too which I gave them.

Quick Mini Tut for the D4P:

1) Cut (2) 7" squares from 2 coordinating prints
2) Sew them into a 4P
3) Make 4 cuts; one @ 1.5" to each side of the center seams. Do NOT move the fabric. Rotate the cutting mat or rotate yourself around the mat.
4) Move only the skinny center pieces from each clockwise one space.
5) Sew into rows and then into a 9P.
Your block will now be 12.5".

I am finishing a scrappy and working on a tut for it now so be looking for my tut!! Have fun making a D4P this way and hope you are inspired!:o

I too loved the fabs and the Route 66 fab and in the 2nd quilt, I put the 'Hello from NM' block in the center and you can see the Hello part a little bit from here. One guy from CA who did some blocks had the most gorgeous fabs but I didn't see the block in the pics which was why close-ups were essential!

nicely done

Please do share the tut with everyone you know!! It's the main reason I posted tonight as it surely makes a great looking quilt! It's very forgiving too if you have to trim off since its integrity is not lost. Most of the blocks sent in were 12.25" and the other half were 12.50" so I just grouped them by size and one finished at 11.50 and the other at 12 so be warned the blocks will come out at different sizes. The recipients will love them! Thank you, daisydebby! Your guild will love you for this easy pattern! :)

These look wonderful! I've made a few D4P blocks just to try out the pattern. A whole quilt of them looks awesome. Another one to add to my "to do" list! Thanks for the inspiration.

Question on one of the blocks---second row from bottom third one from right...kind of goldy/orangy.......the center fourpatch does not look the same as the others.....colors are not opposite, or am I really going bonkers!!!!!!! Like the look of the scrappy.....and the two color is cool too......love how color makes the

Thanks for donating to victims of Sandy. I was in the eye of the storm (best place to be) and suffered no damage. Less than 5 miles away people were totally wiped out. It's hard to imagine losing everyting - a hand made quilt is something to treasure.

BuzzinBumble 01-27-2013 08:49 AM

These are terrific - and that's wonderful that you put them together for Sandy victims!

Love the quilts and you did a great job on them.
You have GREEN grass outside to put your quilts on--I remember green grass--not right now in the Thumb of Michigan.

bibi 01-27-2013 11:13 AM

Very nice job and sentiment. Thanks for the tutorial, looks very manageable.

Thank you farmquilter! I just have to show you this one pic taken earlier where there's green grass, fall leaves and snow I had to work around! It was just enough space to lay an old quilt down with the top over it! lol!

hperttula123 01-27-2013 11:17 AM
