My friend and I were talking about quilting and she just made a queen size quilt for her son and his future wife but she had to quilt it. She was worried about trying to do it on her sewing machine table. We both were trying to figure out how to make it work using her dining room table. My husband made this to fit as a leaf in her table to hold her machine. We had a piece of leftover counter top and he cut it to size. Her table pulls out quite far so we hope this idea works. She is going to start the quilting tomorow. I'll keep you posted on how it works. Her machine is recessed and is flat onto the table instead of sitting on top of it.

Great idea! The best way to quilt is from the 'side' of the machine. Sit facing the needle then both hands don't fight with the machine.

Very interesting idea. I haven't ever FMQ so I didn't know about quilting from the side of the machine but it makes sense.

My sewing table is made from a countertop, too. I would suggest she get a Super Slider or something like that to help the quilt move. All those little textures on the surface cause some drag. I think she will love it!
