I have been wanting to try this quilt block for a long time after seeing one a friend found at a yard sale. I finally found a pattern for it in a book I had and these fabrics from my stash just leaped out at me. What do yall think. Please give your honest opinion. Should I keep on making it or should I stop now??????I call it my sunflower quilt.

What do you think is the problem with it? the colors or is it not alying right or what?
I think it looks fine. I also think with some yellow shashing from the inner flower it would look lovely as a pillow covering
Why would you stop now? You've chosen GREAT colors...it's going to be a beautiful quilt!!
The colors look good to me. If it is fun to make, keep going.
i would keep going, it looks great
I say that if you have the determination to make an entire quilt from that block, more power to you! It looks complicated and therefore difficult.
However, once you have a quilt's worth of blocks, you will have one super-stunning creation. |
Keep going! It is beautiful. Please post more pictures when you are done. Can't wait to see it.
I think it is wonderful. Why stop now. It's going to be a beautiful quilt.
You've picked the perfect colors for a sunflower. I'd keep going!
How did you do the center? The yellow flower. Is it appliqued? I saw somthing similar recently, and the part that looks like your yellow was some how folded to make the petals. What is the name of this block, and does it use that "folded" techinque?
I do like your colors... I think they would be awesome. But is it a hard and/or frustrating block to make? I wanted to take the class for the block that I saw, but decided I wasnt ready for that challenge yet. Best of success to you in whatever you decide, and be sure to show us the results! |
I would keep going with the blocks and put some yellow sashing in between them to pull it together.
Where is Ashdown? I am in Oklahoma, just 18 SW of Fort Smith, AR. |
i sse nothing wrong with it i live the colors
It is laying alright and is fun to make. I just wondered if it was too gawdy looking with the colors I picked?
Ashdown is mid way between DeQueen and Texarkana. We are in Southwest Arkansas.
The block is all sewn. You sew in a row. There are eight yellow petals and 8 striped petals. The yellow ones are sewn onto the striped ones. Then you sew them together to form a circle. Then you sew them onto the middle yellow circle, foling the yellow petals on each corner to where the eges of the striped pieces meet. Am I confusing you yet? The name of the block is Golden Glow and is fund in the Better Homes and Gardens New Patchwork and Quilting Book. Once you get the hang of it, it is really fairly simple to sew by hand. I don't know if I would even try to tackle it on a machine.

Where do you live Diamond? How close is close? Lunch sounds good. If you are very close, you might want to drop in some Monday and join my sit and sew.
I think I will keep going. I sewed an sewed yesterday and today. I now have 8 blocks done. 8 out of 42 aint bad! I love a challenge. Will be sure to share when I get'er done. Thanks for all the input. You have inspired me to keep going.
I think it is beautiful.
Wow, looks complicated, its going to be beautiful.
I looked at the pattern again and the blocks are joined together with no sashing. I think when I get it done I will put a border on it , probaly in the gold and the bind it in the hunter green. I may lay the 8 I have made out tomorrow and pos a picture of what it looks like that way. Then we can decide.
Keep going.
I say keep going!!! It is going to be a stunning quilt :D:D:D
Keep going.
I like the colors!
Keep going! |
I say keep going. It is a wonderful pattern with lots of movement, especially with the stripe you have used. This is also on my to do list. I have a set of Marti Mitchell templates to make a similar block, haven't used them yet. Someday!!! Can't wait to see pictures of multiple blocks.
Capital idea with strips.
I'm not even going to read what ever one else said first because my answer is YES!!!!!!!!!!!!! KEEP GOING!!! I LOVE that block!!
It's very pretty. An entire quilt of that block would be wonderful, with the yellowish center color fabric as a sashing around all the blocks to set them off.
More pictures please. I like the colors you have choosen.
