the "snake" method of FMQ

Wendy, who posted the above, has single-handedly taken me beyond Cross Hatch and Scalloping near a ditch - the only two quilting methods I have used.

It's a first attempt - and looks like it -but wow - what places I can now go! I divided the quilt into quadrants, drew "snakes" with a chalk pencil in each quadrant. I would start near the center of the quilt and work that quadrant. If I got too much quilt under the machine I would simply stop there, cut the threads, and begin again at the other end of the snake - overlapping the stitching when I met up with it again. These pinwheels are 12 inches across if that gives you some sense of scale.

First pic is the back - hopefully showing you how this looks. Then from the front you may can see the meanders around the snake. Please know that if I can do this - you can do this!

I usually make my stitch lines way too close - these are a bit too far - but I can see this taking places I so want to go. Thanks Wendy!

Well, just look at you GO, Jan! It's great to see you starting to take off with FMQing!!! Your stitches look pretty darn good, even length, good tension, etc. You are doing a great job, especially considering the small throat space on your machine. The more you practice, the smoother your lines will get, and manuvering your quilt through the machine will get easier too.
