snap bag purse

1 Attachment(s)
After using the seam ripper many time and telling the dogs it's o.k. to come out from under the bed mom isn't going to yell anymore I finally figured out how to make a snap bag purse. I still need to make some adjustments I like them. They are a little noisy but I like it.

Great job! Very in tune with the season.

Excuse me laughing - and I thought that it was only me that had these "hissy" fits.

Well it looks like it was worth it - great bag.

GagaSmith 10-09-2012 12:21 PM

Well worth the "ripping"' now you have a great looking bag!!!

I just learned how to make these too. Lots of fun. I made them in several different sizes and even made one for a friend's iPad and my husband's nook. I plan on making some to be tooth fairy pillows and crayon holders. I use the Stanley tape for the large ones and the Dollar Store one for little ones.

Very nice snap bag-glad you figured out how to make them. They are fun and great for gifts.

Cute purse doesn't look like you would had any problems.

I have never seen a snap bag with handles. Is this from a pattern or your own addition. I have made a lot of them for friends for Mah Jong cards and make up etc, but yours is really nice.

skowron5 10-09-2012 06:22 PM

The pattern on the internet does not have batting in it. I used that pattern and then added batting and parts of different patterns I have.

Very nice bag!

I've made several snap bags with cording handles, but I love the way you did yours too. You're right, they can be a little "noisy" when they snap, but they sure do open and close nicely. I've done some with an old 1" wide tape and find that works really well on the larger bags. Like you, I've added batting and also done some decorative FMQ on the sides.

QUILTNMO 10-09-2012 06:34 PM

very nice like the colors!!!

nls 10-09-2012 07:40 PM

mamajack3 10-09-2012 08:34 PM

Cute one. I have just recently started making purses.

BMP 10-10-2012 02:29 AM

How did you add the handles ?? I have made the smaller bags without the handles but cant figure at what point and how you add handles ??

girlsfour 10-10-2012 03:58 AM

Very cute!!! You will get lots of compliments - especially because of it being fallish!

DianneK 10-10-2012 04:24 AM

Nice job...I made a large diaper bag and doubled the rule for more strength.

Rumbols 10-10-2012 04:36 AM

Gorgeous bag, just right for the current weather. Great job.

skowron5 10-10-2012 05:35 AM

I made the top with batting. I then sewed the lining rst to top on both sides. I turned it inside out. I then made a band for the top and sewed it on the top and bottom putting the handles when I sewed this seam. I flipped the band over and sewed it from the lining side. I then sewed each side inside out. The pattern I followed did not show how to finish off the band after you sew the side seams. I think I will just do an overcast stitch on them. I do need to do a couple more to make the top look a little neater. I am just trying to think of different ways to do it. Hope that helps.

HINT....if you put the ruler in like this () there is not as much noise, hardly any, like this )(, lots of noise LOL

annthreecats 10-10-2012 05:58 AM

Nice job on the purse with the handles. I have the snap bag pattern on my "to do" list.

skowron5 10-10-2012 06:15 AM

Thanks for the information. I think people might like them if they weren't so noisy.

I agree - my directions showed the ruler like the first suggestion above. I could hardly open it when I had them in the other way...

Maureen 04-04-2013 05:03 AM

I have only made the small ones, I didn't know you could make a nice one like yours. Is there a pattern available?

Beeboop71 04-04-2013 05:22 AM

Love your bag! They are sew much fun to make aren't they?

Kansas Barb 05-18-2013 05:00 AM

Looks good. Is there a pattern out there?

bjgallent 05-18-2013 05:56 AM

I love making them. People never guess what makes them "snap" closed. I read somewhere that you can use two pieces of tape instead of one if your bag has a large opening. I think you could use two pieces of tape if using the Dollar Store kind and skip buying a more expensive one on all your bags.

Lady Jane 05-18-2013 01:03 PM

Love the colors.

craftynell 05-18-2013 01:07 PM

Nice bag, good job.

ube quilting 05-18-2013 04:28 PM

To follow through and finish a troublesome project shows us the the proof is certainly in the snap purse!
peace

heather1949 05-19-2013 03:54 AM

Awesome I love it and the colours are just stunning.

LynnVT 05-19-2013 04:00 AM

Beautiful bag. I make small ones and never heard of using double tape as in (). I only use one strip like this ( and it works fine. Will have to try the double for a bigger bag. Learn something new on this board all the time!
