Soldier's Quilt Finished

I've just completed a jelly roll quilt for a "Special Soldier". It and 2 others have been taken to dear friends of a severely wounded soldier from our area. He is currently at Walter Reed Hospital undergoing treatment. Still a long, long way to go. He has a great spirit. He will chose his favorite and the other 2 will go to others. I always quilt the words "bravery, valor, honor, courage on these quilts. I saw a wonderful panto that inspired me. Regrettably, I couldn't quilt it because it was too large for my 9". That is not a problem now, but I quilted it before I got the 15" Bailey. It's been hanging out in my quilt room waiting for me to put the binding on. I "borrowed" the binding from another quilt, thought they were the same size (that's what you get for thinking and not measuring), and found I was 1 strip short. I had 3 sides stitched by then. The binding was cut at 3" and all I had in scraps was 2 - 2 1/2" strips + a 1" strip. If I had measured, I could have trimmed it down to 2 1/2", added the other strips and it would have been fine. So I added the 1" to the 2 1/2", pressed the seam open, made sure it was going to be on the inside and voila! Done! Used YLI variegated thread (red/white/blue), Soft & Bright batting.

My youngest son has done 3 tours. He is now in training for the Air Force's Red Horse squadron. I made him a quilt before he went the first time. Here it is.

Those little stars are just the perfect added touch to what was already a fabulous quilt! I have 2 RWB jelly rolls that I got to make QOV's & your beautiful quilt sure does inspire me! I'm sure this will bring much comfort & many smiles to this fine young hero! You are so sweet to do this for him. I sense good karma headed your way!

So beautiful I love the stitching you did on the binding. What a great way to honor this soliders and others for their service and sacrifice they made for all of to remain free. And thank you for sharing this and God bless.
