Some Hanukkah Tabletoppers

5 Attachment(s)
My family and I are not Jewish, but as Christians, we recognize those miracles. My cousin is Jewish so when my girls started asking questions about his faith, we started to make potato latkes and light a menorah each Hanukkah season along with my cousin so they could understand. Now the girls know how he practices his faith and they can really connect with him. When I saw these patterns, I just had to make them.

The first two pictures are a table runner, the third is the fabric I used to make the flames and the last two are of a candle mat I made, as well.

I like the pattern very much. Where did you find it? My randaughter is married to a Jewish guy & they have both Hannukar & Christmas. I think she would love one . :) (grandaughter)

I found it in a friend's magazine. I believe it was an older one. I can't seem to find it, right now, but I will keep looking and see if I can find a name and month, before I return it to her.

How Pretty !!!

Also NOT Jewish but would love these items, they are wonderful. Your candle mat is unique, I've not seen it made with the triangles going up the side of the candle! Great idea.

What a great family you have - to foster understanding like that. You and your children will make the world a better place. Your tablerunner is just perfect!

lynnie 01-16-2013 07:54 PM

Very very nice. I made a six pointed star table runner for my dh.

sewnsewer2 01-16-2013 08:08 PM

Love your mat & runner!

COYOTEMAGIC 01-16-2013 08:33 PM

Beautiful Runner! I also want to say how wonderful it is for you to be secure enough in your own faith that you can explore another with your children to help them understand that even though we are all different, it doesn't mean we can't support each other in our differences. Good Job Mom!!!

Very nice pattern, and good workmanship too! I made something for my jewish friends too; it was a wall hanging. Maybe I still a photo of it. If I find it I'll post it for you to see.

audsgirl 01-16-2013 11:57 PM

That is a darling pattern. How nice of you to expose your kids to other religions and/or cultures. It will pay dividends in the future. And I love the candle mat.

tumrub 01-17-2013 03:24 PM

That is a great idea, showing your kids how to celebrate your cousins faith.
I moved to ca. & worked in a cpa firm that was ran by jews I didn't know any thing about the faith (or how it was celebrated so they taught me. good learning experince.

Thank you, everyone! As a Christian, I didn't see a problem with showing my girls the Jewish faith. The miracle celebrated at Hanukkah was brought about by the same God we worship. We don't make a huge deal at Hanukkah, but we do light the menorah and recognize God's provision for His people.
