This is my first attempt at a kaleidoscope quilt, it's going to be a medium sized wall hanging, since there wasn't enough fabric left on the bolt for a bigger quilt.
I have been eye-balling this fabric for quite some time, and I kept telling myself I'd wait till it went on sale since it's 10 bucks a meter. This week it's at 50% off, but there was only 2.5 meters left :(
Anyway, tell me what you think ;P

Brilliant at how all the different kaleidoscopes come out from one fabric. Your quilt is going to look stunning.

Looks like you have a plan, and you are working your plan.
I like the story your kalaidoscopes tell ... highlighting all the parts of the daffodil, and then one block showing the whole flower.
That is going to be a wonderful quilt.

its looking fantastic and i cant wait to see the finished piece! It was good to see what the fabric looked like before you cut it up as i have been contemplating using this technique but was never sure what fabric would work..our big chain store is having a sale so might see if there is some fabric that might be suitable..how much should i buy?

Quilting Aggi 06-21-2009 07:23 PM

I love the fabric you used! The blocks are going to be great!

Janstar 06-21-2009 07:27 PM

They look great Melanie. Are'nt they fun to do? It's so addicting because you can't wait to see what each block will look like. Perfect fabric!

Well, you need at least 6 repeats in your fabric (or 8 if you plan to make your kaleidoscopes octogons) but if you want to make it bed sized you need a ton of fabric. I think I read in my book that you need something like 7 meters or close to that. Maybe someone who has made a big one can properly answer that question.

Quilt4u 06-22-2009 03:01 AM

Very nice. I like.

Bevanger 06-22-2009 06:09 AM

great job! :D

JoanneS 06-22-2009 07:02 PM

It's gorgeous so far. Maybe you can find a batik or other fabrics to 'fill in' and make it bigger, IF you want it bigger!

alaskasunshine 07-17-2009 06:42 AM

What a pretty and sunny quilt. I can see why you kept eye balling that fabric too, it is gorgeous! Did you finish it yet?

butterflywing 07-17-2009 07:32 AM

Diane007 11-25-2012 06:29 AM

I think ooh, la, la. Those are my kind of quilt blocks. So interesting and fascinating at how it changes the fabric and makes something totally new in effect. Beautiful. Maybe you can scour the internet and find some more of the fabric and make it a bigger quilt. Love, love it.

ube quilting 11-25-2012 10:46 AM

WOW! will be awesome. Anxious to see the finished quilt!
peace
