i received a squishy from blue chicken today.

its beautiful fabric for the breast cancer quilts that i make.

i was afraid that i wouldn't be able to make any more since DH has lost his job and my budget has been cut to zero.

thank you so much Bluechicken it means the world to me and to all the women who suffer from this horrible cancer.

i know what u mean my hubby only been working 2 days a week. he is a truck driver. some nice ladies on our board--live chat sent me some fabric , had no money , and no stash. thanks to all.

Klue do you only make for breast cancer awareness? My SIL passed away from cervical cancer last summer. I bought some lovely fabric in teals ....with the cancer awareness ribbons ect for cervical cancer awareness but I have been unable to bring myself to make the quilt. If this is something you would be interested in I would be happy to send it to you.

Great fabrics for your project. So nice of Blue to think of you. Sorry about your DH's job. My DH got laid off last Fri. I'm glad I have a stash.

i'm so sorry to hear about your sister - i understand completely that you've haven't been able to make a quilt.

i kind of fell into the entire cancer quilt making thing. it started because i was going to support groups when my MIL and BIL both passed away.

the word kind of spread thru all the support groups that i was a quilter and people started to ask me to make quilts for them or their loved ones.

the most often requested is breast cancer but i have made some cervical quilts too.

99.99% of the time i don't charge people for the quilt - i think in the last 6 years i've been paid a small fee on 2 quilts.

i would be honored if you sent me the fabric but you might want to hold onto it for a little longer before you decide.

the best thing i ever did to heal from the loss of my family was making these quilts.

every day that i make the cancer quilts, the quilts for the battered woman's shelter, or the hospice care quilts - i feel like my loved ones live on - that i and the community still honor and value them.

so maybe one day you can make a quilt and donate it to the hospital to ease anothers suffering.

when i first started i cried often while making them but soon it passed and i was filled with nothing but loving memories.

Klue - I just love the fabric with the ladies on it, I also have never seen that one before. I can't wait to see what you make with it.

KLUE: My husband lost his job after 36 years at the same plant...they just closed it. It will be a year before too long. Hang in there. GG

it was very surprising. he worked there for 10 years and had just won 2 emmy awards.

Klue: what beautiful fabric BlueChicken sent you and what a great thing you're doing. They say what goes around comes around so only good things can come your way.

I understand about the job loss situation. It was a year in Nov that my DH lost his. He saw an opportunity and started his own business--but then they took away his unemployment compensation because he's "self-employed" even though there was a period of no income. Oh well, sorry to be long-winded but now his business is doing well and I'm sure with your DH's talents he'll find something even better than he had. (I just can't get used to him home 24/7--he used to spend 6-8 mos a year in China!!)

Klue just read your heartwarming message... I am a survior of colon cancer....I will be cancer free for a year on 29 December. my little brother has throad cancer. Being a survivor I try and do things for the cancer society. I am a volunteer as are my son and daughter... We try and bring cancer awareness to people. we try and raise money for research and try and get people to have tests before it is too late. I was very lucky, even though I have a colostomy bag which is permanent, that I caught my cancer in time. I believe I was given time to do some good with the knowledge that I now have and bring positive thoughts and confort and understanding to others. Bless you all

DH is a producer and 2 of the shows he produced won for production quality - nothing interesting they were both financial news based shows.

I love Loralie's fabrics, they're so funky and cool. They've been sitting in my stash for ages waiting for the right project.

I think just about everyone these days has their own "cancer story", whether they're effected personally or through someone close. My sister lost her husband a few years ago, aged just 34, then her son was diagnosed at 7 (thankfully he's in remission now), and now hubby's ex is in the final stages of her losing battle with the horrid disease.

Throughout it all, for me, the overwhelming theme is love and support... from friends, family, and complete strangers. It's the one shining light in what can be such a dark time.

I received a lap quilt and several pillows when I was being treated for breast cancer - all were wonderfully welcome, and I thought of them as warm hugs whenever I used them. The pillows are especially nice to hug with your arm to your missing breast initially after surgery - to put between it and the seat belt when you're in the car - and to put under the missing breast when you lie on your side in bed. Bless everyone who makes them - and I can understand how making them can help heal the pain of losing someone, Kelly.

So sorry to hear this!!! I had a dear friend and a beloved cousin with breast cancer this year. Happy to report that they both had lumpectomies, finished their chemo, and both are doing great!! They are even getting their hair back.

I just can't understand why they lay so many ppl off right at Christmas time. Have they no heart?

I have wondered before, as one of my brothers went through chemo...what all it does to your body.
Some things changed permanently, but we still have him and he's fairly healthy, so thank goodness for that.

I too have wondered. My dd is a cancer survivor. She was 20 when she was diagnosed. One of the side affects of the treatment we were told about was that sometimes it causes heart damage and the it is possible for her develope life threatening heart problems.
They actually said that some patients just die suddenly without warning. Usually happens in their 30's. She is 28.
Truly scary.

JanRN, I can relate. DH's truck driving job was cut to 3 days per week, then now he was laid off with only a half day going to service the fleet. In this rainy weather we've been having, it has literally been 24/7. He has been feeling pretty bad just not being able to "go to work." I told him to look at the bright side. Since 1956, all we've wanted to do was be together all the time. But work responsibilities, children, and all that comes with both parents working made it difficult to be together. Now, at last, we're together in an empty nest.

amen to that - enjoy these moments because as i tell my DH before you know it you'll have another job that you hate getting out of bed for.
