This was a fun retreat. I like brights so used fabric that I already had and cut my own 2.5 inch strips. Others used a jelly roll and each of their stars came out different and were lovely.

I have not been on many retreats, but the woman who has organized these two makes it a lot of fun and relaxing.

Surprisingly it wasn't hard to do. I was pretty tenuous when I started, but it made sense shortly and then they went together more quickly. I would encourage you go try one. It was actually quite fun.

sewnsewer2 01-24-2011 07:32 PM

Wow, that is very pretty!!

Murphy 01-24-2011 07:35 PM

Thank you all for the encouraging comments. The colors are actually brighter and richer in tone, but pics don't always post true to color (smile). I appreciate your looking.

Wow! Beautiful! You do such nice work.

IDquilter 01-24-2011 07:57 PM

Really, really nice. I have never attempted one because I was told that when you make one, you will never make another one, that is why it is called 'the lone star'. Maybe
I will put it on my to do list since you didn't think it was that hard.

Latrinka 01-24-2011 08:02 PM

Yes, that is a dulcimer I made while visiting a friend in Arkansas. Thanks for asking.

I just love your quilt!!!!! It speaks to me,,,,,what? you want to come to my house? Okay,,,,well you better tell Murphy,,,she might not like that idea. But I could always help you sneak out!!!! LOL Lovely quilt!!!

Rose L 01-24-2011 09:44 PM

Murphy, that's a really lovely quilt. The colors work so nicely together. Good job on the setting squares and triangles. Did you do the quilting as well?

I used to make the single giant lone star quilts for a living and believe me, after you have knocked a couple of them out you can just about do it in your sleep. They are not hard to do once you get the hang of putting your strips together folks so I encourage you all to try doing one!

I sent it out for quilting as it is quite large and I don't have the ability to handle large quilts (smile). I agree that once you get the hang of how the strips go together it goes along very well.

kristen0112 01-24-2011 09:48 PM

Wow it's really beautiful!
