My current quilt work-in-progress. Based on this quilt: www.flickr.com/photos/redpepperquilts/5055696086/ by Red Pepper Quilts.

Thought this design would send me over the edge with it's spinning look, but once I tried making a square I was hooked (I must already be over the edge). I've thrown in some unconventional stripes like sheet music prints, written words prints and some dots. The squares are all made...70 of them. I'm now sewing them together into a quilt top. I really need to set this aside and do some Christmas sewing, but it keeps calling me. Once the top is done and can be moved from my design wall (an unmade bed), I really will have to set it aside for a bit. I just didn't want you to think I was sitting around doing nothing.

Doing nothing is also great too, as it gives us a chance to just let it sink in (on what we have already done so far)! By the way I like what you have done so far....:)

Very interesting to keep your eyes on the black and white striped block while scrolling the pic up. Watch what it does...an optical illusion of sorts. One reason why I love working with stripes! Nice work!

You did a phenomenal job on the cutting and piecing! Such a stunning quilt!! :D:D:D

LindaM 10-20-2010 07:20 PM

Beautiful - this looks like it was great fun! Good job!

Iluv2quilt 10-20-2010 08:11 PM

You notice the black and white square does that. I was wondering if I would be the only one. It's fun.

Thank you all for your nice comments. With careful cutting it's really a lot easier to match those stripes than you might think.

kclitz 10-20-2010 08:50 PM

How challenging! So neat! Was there a tute that guided you on how to best match the stripes (so perfect!)? Would love to try but being so new to quilting, I don't have the nerve!

Check out Red Pepper Quilts blog. http://www.redpepperquilts.com/searc...max-results=10 She discusses how she cuts her pieces for her squares. With careful cutting, the stripes will practically go together on their own.

mollymct 10-21-2010 03:26 AM

I love the Red Pepper Quilts blog. Have several things "favorited". Your quilt is awesome!! All the stripes are so impressively lined up!!

TeresaT 10-21-2010 03:33 AM

Very striking! Really like it.

Linda1 10-21-2010 07:03 AM

I love your quilt but I have never been able to sew stripes because it makes me dizzy. A lady brought me one to quilt for her and I had to put the top on the bottom to get it done.
