This thing was a beast! I made it for the lady who gave me her sewing machine. I designed it and she gave me the color scheme.

I named it sunlit path because it looks like a sunset, and the alternating way the blocks are set kind of looks like a path to me.

So what do you think?

Very Pretty!! I like your pattern!

chairjogger 09-26-2009 04:25 PM

Lot of work ! Congratulations finishing it ! The quilt is bigger than I have ever attempted! Intersting take on the Log Cabin design.

^5... I like it !

SharonC 09-26-2009 04:27 PM

What a great thank you present :).
Love it.

sewnsewer2 09-26-2009 05:09 PM

Very nice work! I'm sure she will appreciate it.

Debbie1 09-26-2009 05:55 PM

It does look like a path. Great job!

Jim's Gem 09-26-2009 05:56 PM

Very nice!!

joeyoz 09-26-2009 07:51 PM

I think it turned out great and the name is perfect. That was a very nice thing for you to do too. :D :D :D

mrsj82 09-26-2009 08:57 PM

The woman I made this for, won't take the quilt because I won't make pillow cases to match without being compensated for it.

We agreed to her giving me the machine and I make her a quilt. No money exchanged. There was nothing in our communications mentioned about a pillow case clause.

Now when I email her to tell her that it's done, she asked me if the pillowcases were done. I told her I didn't remember agreeing to any pillowcases, and now she told me she won't take the quilt and is angry that I "jipped her" and is accusing me of being dishonest.

I'm so angry! GRRRRRRRRrrr

I have enough scraps of material left over to make some babydoll pillowcases. I should make them, and deliver them wtih the quilt to her. There's your pillowcases! LOL

Sorry for the rant, but I'm just so frustrated. I pour my heart and soul into making quilts, and now one isn't being accepted because she can't milk it for all it's worth, just outrages me!!!!

I know I can gain some sympathy here...lol

sawsan 09-26-2009 09:31 PM

janedennis 09-26-2009 09:57 PM

Was the machine worth all this agrivation? If yes mail it to her and forget it.

tlrnhi 09-26-2009 10:52 PM

That's really, really pretty!
What a great quilt!

SulaBug 09-26-2009 11:46 PM

Great quilt you have made,
in exchange for a sewing
machine!! :D Anyone would
be so proud to own it!!
:D :D :D :D

Darlene 09-27-2009 03:18 AM

That is so sad that the lady is doing this. But your quilt is beautiful and she is losing out if she doesn't accept it.

sewjoyce 09-27-2009 06:14 AM

I think she's gonna love it! :D

I have been up for hours and hours....and your quilt is so lovely, I was thinking to write you and tell you " your quilt is better than a morning cup of coffee....prettier than the sun coming up!
That yellow ray is so bright in your quilt....I would relish to have it on my bed...it would give me a smile each morning....like it did today.

MAYBE SHE NEEDS YOUR QUILT TO INFLUENCE HER TO BE A BETTER, SWEETER PERSON!

littlehud 09-27-2009 07:39 AM

Very pretty. She is so lucky to have it. Bet she loves it.

Quilt4u 09-27-2009 07:43 AM

Very nice. Great job.

mamatobugboo 09-27-2009 07:44 AM

it is just so uplifting and HAPPY!!!! I love it!

Joan 09-27-2009 07:52 AM

I can't imagine what she is thinking.....(about the pillowcase issue)

Does she KNOW how much time went into that wonderful quilt??????

I'm so sorry that what should have been a nice experience turned into
one that will probably break friendships......I just don't know what I would
do if I was in your shoes....

i just read the info about her not taking it - what a complete bummer. I am so sorry for the aggravation and how unappreciative she is. I'm sure you told her that there is not enough fabric left to make the cases, (but if she sends you the fabric, you would be glad to make them)!

I think that it is just wonderful.... :D

mrsj82 09-27-2009 08:56 AM

Thanks for the understanding guys. I just am so angry about this. I pour my heart and soul into making quilts. From the initial pattern to the binding. This is the best one I've ever done in my opinion and my hubby's opinion, and now that she doesn't want it...I cried myself to sleep last night.

I woke up to find another nasty email from her telling me how dishonest I am being about not making pillow cases, and that I can just keep it.

i would be happy to make cases for her, but she needs to give me the money for materials, as I'm out of matching material. Or she can buy some solid color cases herself that will match...I just don't understand people sometimes.

I put so much work into this, my heart and soul, and I'm absolutely crushed at the actions of this horrible woman!

I could send it to one of you guys if you want! It needs a home!

But the bright side? My mother in law said she'd take it. I don't know how much use it will see at her house, but at least it gets it out of mine!

alaskasunshine 09-27-2009 09:31 AM

Lovely quilt & interesting pattern too!

joeyoz 09-27-2009 10:41 AM

OK now she is just being rude and greedy. It's a beautiful quilt and a nice gift. I would give it to her anyway. You can feel good about what you have done. She is the one being unreasonable.

Sorry this has happened to you and that it will put a strain on your friendship. Doesn't sound like she is being much of a friend. I call friends like that High Maintenance. :( :( :(

mrsj82 09-27-2009 10:42 AM

Yeah, she's not a friend. She was someone who I made a deal with to get a sewing machine because I couldn't purchase it from her. Not a friend at all.

I'm not giving it to her. She doesn't deserve it, and she doesn't want it anyway...so I'm trying to find it a home.

joeyoz 09-27-2009 10:51 AM

You can always donate it to your local church or school for a raffle to raise money for them. I KNOW they would appreciate your efforts and kind heart. :D :D

mamatobugboo 09-27-2009 01:38 PM

I like Joey's idea of donating to a church or hospital or something like that. The VA hospital would appreciate a gift like that!

GailG 09-27-2009 02:41 PM

Do you think that woman is actually angry, or is it her way of compensating you for making the extras (pillowcases)? I don't understand her ways, but she doesn't deserve your hard work. And I think I'd return that machine and call it a done deal.

What a beautiful quilt to end up with such hurt feelings tied to it.

mrsj82 09-27-2009 06:13 PM

I've actually got a buyer! Someone on this board saw the quilt and offered to give it a home. I'm just waiting on her sending me the funds to ship it to it's new forever home! She promised to make it happy and show it a picture of me every day! teehee!

Thanks for all your support and feedback.

joeyoz 09-27-2009 08:54 PM

So glad this is working out for you and that your quilt is going to have a loving home. :D :D :D

Bevanger 09-28-2009 04:43 AM

FANTASTIC :D

Charlee 09-28-2009 04:52 AM

That must be one heck of a sewing machine...cuz that's a beautiful quilt! Find out what local seamstresses charge per hour, figure out the hourly cost of that quilt plus materials, attach it to the quilt and send it to her!

mytwopals 09-28-2009 08:39 AM

It turned out really nice. I like it. :D

reneebobby 09-28-2009 09:00 AM

I agree looks like a sunset. Great job.

Sheila Elaine 10-02-2009 02:20 PM

Can you find more fabric like what's in the quilt so you could make pillow cases? If so, would she take it then? I know it's putting you in a strange position. You don't know whether she is going to change her mind again, etc. Good luck on coming to a mutual decision.

Darlene loves Chocolates 01-02-2010 04:39 PM

guess WHAT!!!!!!!!!!!

after taking this quilt off your hands (MONTHS AGO)....
I GAVE IT TO MY DAUGHTER FOR XMAS!!!!!!!!!!

Chuck has been so sick, I was unable to do any shopping or
anything else...so having this quilt was just perfect and a "perfect gift" for the winter time.

she loves it......TOO BAD FOR THE LADY WHO ORDERED IT AND DID NOT BUY IF FROM YOU!!!!!

by the way, your web site is pretty neat!

BKinCO 01-02-2010 05:50 PM

Very pretty! and, great name!

Jingle 01-02-2010 07:03 PM

What a horrid lady. Shame on her !!!

Quilter7x 01-02-2010 07:17 PM

Did you give the sewing machine back to the lady? She put you in a really tough position and I'm so sorry you had to go through that. It really upset me to read that you cried yourself to sleep over her greed. You are a far better person than she ever thinks she could be.

It's now at it's 2nd home and seems to be quite content!

By the way, it's a really beautiful quilt. I love how you put a square on point in the middle of a log cabin.
